Yup, we're as surprised as they are! But we also think this is a brilliant idea.

Producers Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman said the following in a statement: "We think the team of Steve and Alec are the perfect pair of hosts for the Oscars. Steve will being the experience of having hosted the show in the past and Alec will be a completely fresh personality for this event."

Martin says he's "happy" to co-host "with my enemy Alec Baldwin." Baldwin reveals, "I don't play the banjo but I am thrilled to be hosting the Oscars - it's the opportunity of a lifetime."

Interesting to note, both actors will appear alongside Meryl Streep in the upcoming Nancy Meyers comedy It's Complicated this December... the Academy Awards will then take place on March 7th, 2010 at the Kodak Theatre.

We can't wait! This is a dream team!

Here's the actor shooting scenes (and having a yawn) for the third season of his NBC show with Will Arnett in NYC. Can't wait!

Alec Baldwin's always happy to lend his name to a worthy cause - and if it means having some fun with his fellow actors, so much the better!

We caught sight of Alec acting as umpire at the annual Writers/Artists Softball Game, a charity event benefitting East Hospice, East Hampton Day Care, Phoenix House, and a special fund set up in memory of Roy Scheider (a longtime participant). (Chevy Chase ended up driving in one of the winning runs, too - it's his biggest hit in years!)

The Artists ended up triumphing over the Writers by a score of 4-2 - but when you end up raising over sixty grand for such worthy charities, everyone's a winner!

Poor Ireland Baldwin - once again, her father Alec's found a new way to embarrass her!

Alec was chaperoning Ireland and her friends on the beach yesterday afternoon when a few fans noticed the star and talked him into tossing the pigskin around. After a few mighty heaves, Alec must have been feeling pretty athletic - until he decided to try and hop a railing, that is!

As you can see, everything didn't go according to plan; the actor took a tumble and landed flat on his backside. Happens to the best of us, Alec!

Last summer, they were hangin' out in the Hamptons together, now we've spotted Renee Zellweger and Alec Baldwin having dinner at the romantic and exclusive Waverly Inn restaurant in NYC!

From the way they snuck out separately, there could be more to these two than "just friends".

And it kinda sorta makes sense in some odd (extremely odd) way!

Say what you will about Kim Basinger, but you certainly can't say she doesn't keep the security of her children in mind - literally! Kim hired a very professional security detail to follow daughter Ireland in the wake of Alec Baldwin's now-famous answering-machine rant; the rented dick even brought his own video camera to keep the photogs honest as he escorted his tiny client to the Van Nuys airport to catch a flight. (Hopefully he remembers to take the lens cap off if she's ever really in trouble, though!)
