It's hard to imagine a former Missouri bartender nearly toppling one of the most amazing records in Billboard chart history - unless the bartender in question happens to be David Cook!
This year's champion is alllllllllll over this week's Billboard Hot 100, placing a staggering eleven entries on the list. That's the momost for a single act to score in one week since the Beatles set the record with fourteen songs back in 1964!
Cook's biggest hit at the moment is his finale song "Time Of My Life", which sold 236,000 copies this week. That's an impressive total - but nowhere near as impressive as the total number of sales Cook's seventeen total songs sold this week: 942,000 altogether!
Of course, Cook is benefitting from the promotional deal the Idol poobahs struck with Apple to make all the finalists' songs available. This is also the first year in which an Idol winner's victory song has been made available during the same week it was performed - previously, fans had to wait a few weeks.
And Cook's hardly the only beneficiary of this new policy - this year's runner-up David Archuleta managed to place three songs of his own on the Hot 100!
Congrats to both the Davids - this is a truly amazing accomplishment!
Jeez - first Mariah comes gunning for the Fab Four's record for #1s, and now David's coming within a hair of this milestone!
