Your question is very common. Here's my attempt to answer:

It may be because our foster care system is so terribly flawed, it is less stressful to adopt internationally. you'd be surprised how many of the kids in the US system are not able to be adopted because the bio parents won't relinquish rights. Cases where the states permanently terminate rights are rare. Could you imagine what trouble a bio parent could cause if they found out their child was adopted by Angelina Jolie? Most people who's children are in foster care are not stable, obviously. Also, It is nearly impossible to adopt a child younger than 5...before the die is cast and their psyche is irreversibly damaged. Also, when we adopted our daughter from another country, we knew that if we didn't she would likely die. While children stuck in the US foster care system are terribly needy they aren't facing the same horrific future as children in other nations. Saving a child is saving a child no matter where the child is from. Imagine if everyone who could, would take just one. THAT'S how we change the world. www.mercycorps.org

thanks for your reply, im understanding it,but still if its such a messed up system, how come they're not exposing it more? i guess this all goes political in the end. Im glad they're doing something with their money and im sure these kids will have a great future. i just wish these and others realize that you have kids here in the states that still needs help, and those are ones being left behind. When will we stop taking care of others and start taking care of our own.

It is perfectly understandable that she is so thin right now, she recently had to deal with losing her Mother to cancer, I suffered the same loss and ended up 15 kilograms thinner. Grief is not something you have a lot of control over and it affects different people in different ways. My Mother died 7 years ago and I'm still trying to put the weight I lost back on. She also has 4 children to run around after and a job to go to every day. I think she is doing well...

I've known of many other people who have a "chosen charity", but they don't adopt a bunch of kids for the publicity.

Please explain how my comments make me jealous or insecure. I am quite secure in who I am and what I do in life. I volunteer in many organizations and am quite active in charitable work, but I see no need to shove the work that I do in the face of anyone. My reward comes from the people I help.

I believe that by posting my comment, I am in fact, "making it known" how I feel. It's my opinion, plain and simple - it's not gospel by any means.
