Bijou Phillips Stands By Her Dad

bijoudad.jpg

Mackenzie Phillips' shocking revelations about her 10-year sexual affair with her own father has divided her family, with John Phillips' ex Michelle calling her a liar, while sister Chynna says she believes Mackenzie is telling the truth.

Now, Mackenzie's youngest half-sister Bijou is coming out in defense of her dad.

In a statement read on Oprah yesterday, Bijou said:

"When I was 13, Mackenzie told me that she had a consensual sexual relationship with our father. This news was confusing and scary, as I lived alone with my father since I was 3, I didn’t know what to believe and it didn’t help that shortly there after Mackenzie told me it didn't happen...."

"I understand Mackenzie's need to come clean with a history she feels will help others, but it's devastating to have the world watch as we try and mend broken fences, especially when the man in question isn't here to defend himself."

Chynna appeared on the show (although she didn't want to share the stage with Mackenzie) to say that although she loves and believes her older sister, she wishes it wasn't aired out in public the way it was. But she has also said she believes writing the book has been part of the healing process for Mackenzie and will stand by her.

Admitting an affair with your own father more than once sounds like something no one, not even a mentally ill person would make up. Are Michelle in Bijou in denial? Or is Mackenzie really lying about something this sick?

What do you think?

I think Mackenzie Phillips is a liar. I find it quite odd she opens up about his publicly and after his death. She needs to make money and probably cannot get acting jobs due to her addiction problems.

Denny knew about the relationship while it was going on. Is Denny a liar too? Or is Michelle trying desperately to protect a brand, protect her reputation (let's face it, she knew about John giving Mac drugs, which is criminal), destroying her stepdaughter in the process? Me thinks the latter. Shame on Michelle. Bijou, by the way, did not stand by her father. She states Mackenzie told her when she was thirteen, then later denied it so she doesn't know what to believe. Different story.

Does anyone know where Mackenzie's Mother is in all of this. Oprah never brought up her mother. Michelle Phillip's was her step mom, but where is her birth mother and where was her birth mother when Mackenzie was getting high at 11 years old?

Are you crazy?!!! He shot her up with heroin and gave her the first taste and feel of drugs, supplied her with them... what good name does her father have to defend?!!!

If she'she's telling the truth or not,i don't know, but she's sick anyway. It's wrong,to have sex with her own father.
She's only exploiting this story for money. She probably ran out of money and decided to make it public to sell books, buy drugs and play as the poor victim. She knew it was wrong, but continued having this sexual affair with him,if it really happened. She's not a victim of a crime, she was an adult and knew what she was doing all the time. And crying in national tv won't make people feel bad for her or feel pity.I don't and won't.
Liar or not, she's sick. And gross. Her father is dead and can't defend himself anymore. She's a coward, because she only spoke about it after his death.Too convenient, too easy, now that he won't defend himself from the accusations.Loser.

Some of the family's reactions and people here too is typical. As if someone would confess this for ulterior motives. But that's what they get accused of. Hating the victim is easier than accepting the horror of incest. Mackenzie is a case study of what happens to a person when they feel they have no worth. Of course she's unlikeable. She's been acting out her own self hatred for most of her life. But yet she has loyal friends and one sister. She must have great inner strength to summon up that part of herself enough to attract them.

Clearly X17 didn't even read the statement because Bijou doesn't come close to supporting her father or Mackenzie. She just doesn't know.

I agree with Amy - X17 just says whatever they wanna say to make news. Bijou's statement looks pretty neutral to me like she's not saying one way or the other if she knows for sure.

didn't mackenzie phillips lose her virinity to mick jagger at like 17 or 18?
the truth or not the timing of the revalation is suspect: one year after her last arrest and just as the book it coming out........smells like money........without the book would she have made the admission?......

things point to probably not.......but to capitalize on such a heinous crime tell us that mackenzie might be a litte sicker than we think
because to make money off it is really sick

If she wasn't out pushing her new book this "shocking revelation" would never ever have seen the light of day...

Isn't that strange that the older generation like Michelle Phillips and Bijou's mom both defended the old man but the second generation girls - like Chynna and Cass Elliot's daughter - both believe the story?

Could it be the older generation women are trying to protect John because John's legacy is also their assets. That's something they can use in social scene since both of them don't have a career no more.

Whether Chynna defends her father or not, the attention is on her whether she wants it or not. People are going to suspect "Did he touch her too?". Chynna doesn't have to lie to get attention. She is not getting a profit from the book. She can tell people honestly how she feels. But that's how she feels and what she chooses to believe. She is not a witness.

Mackenzie does profit from the book. So it is questionable if she is telling the truth.

PS. Cass Elliot was the member of The Mamas and Papas. She was dead at 32.

I believe Mackenzie. I also come out of this type of family. I am the oldest girl 5. I was the only one my father molested (as far as I know)and it continued for many years. As I got older I thought it was consensual and that I was all my fault. It's not easy to get away from your father. I was daddy's little girl until I started to develope as a woman and then HE decided that I would be his mistress. I have never told anyone because I do not want to lose the love of my sisters. My youngest sister is many years younger than I am and had a totally different relationship with him. To this day she believes he could do no wrong. I left home when I could no longer stand it. I would say I ran away from home, but can an adult do that? Years later, after I married and had my own kids (3 girls that NEVER spent unsupervised time at Gradma's house) he had the audacity to tell me "I still love you". By the time he died I had not visited my parents house for 20 years.

I think Patsup hit the nail on the head. If you were an addict, you'd do anything to get those drugs, even sleep with your father. As for the book, if Mackenzie was just after the money, why would she expose the big secret on TV, rather than have us all buy the book to find out?? She's at an age when you know that to find any point to ones life you need to purge your demons and move on. As horrific as it is, I think she's doing the right thing. John was a talented singer/songwriter, but he was crippled by addiction and clearly unable to set boundaries of any kind. It is sad, but I am glad to hear that there was forgiveness given and accepted before he died... maybe he can now rest in peace.

I never like Mamas and Papas. The name sounds old fart-ish. The singers are old farts and dead now. The music sucks. Now this. One more reason to hate Mamas and Papas.

Jon and Mackenzie are both junkies. Anything is possible. They take really serious shit like Heroine and Cocaine not your kiddie drug Xtacy or Hippie cigarette pot.

With Heroine and Cocaine in your system, you will be totally out of your mind.

Posted by: Anonymous

Why couldn't Bijou's mother get custody? It's usually the mother who gets full custody. Is she a junkie too? You have to be really irresponsible and stupid to lose custody to John Philips. Everybody knows he is a junkie.

@1:30 because nothing moves books faster than an Oprah appearance.

And nothing jacks up slipping tv ratings (Oprah) than a father/daughter sexual affair. It was the big "get" as journalists cynically call it.

And nothing lures supporting players into this lurid feeding frenzy like the chance to go on Oprah and plug your CD (Chynna) or book/endorsements (Valerie)

MP was exploited by her father but she is now exploiting the public.

She should have sought therapy if she needed to unburden and heal. If she genuinely wanted to help people, she should have reached out to support groups and organizations. She says only now is she starting to think about that.

Probably not a coincidence that she felt the need to do this during an economic crisis, and she probably had little income to begin with.

She has done a disservice to incest (and rape) victims by turning this into a profitable spectacle. And then hiding behind the excuse that it'll help the little people who can't speak out.

She seems like a raging narcissist. Her father was vile, the music will never be the same, Mick Jagger is a sicko. She should've protected her little sister and her glib excuses are empty.

All about the money for her sister, though this girl is 100% correct and gave a mature answer.

1:37 - you are crazy - cocaine isn't as bad as x, they are both bad though. Your point that coke would wack someone out so bad that one would screw their son or daughter is stupid. He evidently did it the day before her wedding, he didn't like the guy. If it even happened, the father was nuts regardless, not because of coke, maybe heroin.

I wasn't sure if she was in her right mind and fully telling the truth until I saw the words to a SONG Bijou wrote in 2000. In an interview she tells us the song is literal and is about exactly what is written. IT IS A MUST SEE. I think Bijou is lying now or backing out of what she originally believed.

1:28 I opened this story expecting to read about Mackenzie Phillips’ disclosure, her sisters reactions and public opinions. I was moved to tears reading your story. You were a child. Your father bears complete responsible for robbing his daughter of her innocence. I am only a stranger reading your story but I think you are a strong woman and fiercely protective mother of three daughters. I respect that you have not disclosed what happened to your sisters because you fear losing their love. But I hope someday you feel differently. A sister’s love knows no boundaries.

Posted by: Anonymous

4:53 you can make your point without calling people "crazy and stupid" because you disagree with their opinion. It takes away from your opinion. Deciding which is worse cocaine or x isn't the point of all this anyway. People do drugs and don't have parent/child sex. It's easy to blame drugs but it goes beyond drugs.

IMO Mackenzie is and always be a messed up human being. I don't think she knows what the truth is if it bit her in the arse. Obviously she is hurting for $$$$ and is spewing lies to get publicity on her book. Writing something so disgusting when that person is no longer her to defend himself. IF this story is true, and I highly doubt it is, then I would be the first to apologize to her, but I just don't believe her. Not for a second.

If it was MJ, you would run him down, just as you did, because he was black. Now, that it's white people in question, you are all up in arms, because of race. You whites aren't saints, you are just as evil as any other race. That young woman was taken advantage by her own father, a so called rock star. Unfortunatly, she is not alone. There are sick people in the world and you love them all. SICK!!!

Posted by: Tori

I totally believe Mackenzie, Michelle cheated on John with Denny and John didn't ever speak to her again so she's just protecting the brand name of the group. She has no right to say anything!!!

Posted by: Anonymous

I know a guy that had sex with his hand. His hand produced a hand and it acted in a movie called The Adames Family. LOL.

It wasn't me. o.k. The hand was white!
