My son is bipolar (not, that I know Brit is) and he does get worse by certain events in his life. Mainly stress. He lost his grandmother and that meant a trip back to the hospital, so yes, I agree that certain things can trigger and make things much worse. He can be lucid at times and you would never know anything was wrong. Something can happen and he spirals back down. This is a never ending battle for us.
