From a neutral standpoint (Britney's fans will see nothing wrong with her performance whatsoever whilst Britney haters will blame her for lipsyncing etc) this was an OK performance. The best one off Circus so far.

The song IS being played playback, HOWEVER Britney DOES sing live along to it. It's very easy to hear that. The singing lessons has obviously done her good, but I don't think it would ever sound good enough if they only put her live voice there, cause she moves around too much. She may not move around as much as she did in the past, but she's older, and a lot of you guys clearly have no idea how hard it is to sing. It's VERY hard physically. It takes a lot of physical strength to do it perfectly, especially when you are dancing around. Britney has never been a "Christina Aguilera" kind of singer, but she has a very outstanding voice, in the way that it differs from so many others. That's what makes her special. I prefer her over those high ranged singers, because while they may sing perfectly, Britney gets something else out. Her voice is VERY different, her way of singing is VERY different. You can't compare her voice to others, while singers like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Leona Lewis etc all get compared to each other, cause they have the same singing style.

After watching the beginning of "for the record" where they played most of her videos from earlie days, she has no energy now. All the movements are not tight and kinda lack luster and umph! Almpost like she forgot how to dance. A dance show once said that when a performer dances slow and not tight moves..that means they are counting steps in their head. Come on Brit...what the heck happened???

If she is going to dance, then she NEEDS to DANCE. She is just walking around the stage shaking her hips. Now, I HATE Madona, but she is a good example that age has nothing to do with it. If you put in the effort, then you have a GREAT show. Britney has a long way to go. As for now, her name is getting her where she is now.

She is actually pulling some pretty hard dance moves. I think it's pretty obvious to see that from the pictures. She does not dance as much as before, and does walk around a lot, but so what? It's still a lot of movement, and it still makes it much harder to sing. Now that you mention Madonna, I HAVE seen some really bad live performances with her cause she had to dance a lot. It's normal. It's not like they're super human.

GIZ, that's the one that made me say "yeah, she's back, sure". Diane asked her where the tour was starting and she answered, "Huh, where?...America". I'm guessing that's why earlier Diane Sawyer said that "she'd love to sit down and talk with Britney, but today's all about the dance". Judging from her answer to where the tour was starting, I'm guessing that was the reason there's no interview. There's no one home.

Britney on 'GMA' -- Still Sleepwalking

It's a whiz-bang comeback - or at least it's supposed to be -- for Britney Spears, whose new album and birthday and morning TV appearance all dropped today.

But her two song appearance on "Good Morning America" today, hyped for weeks, and her first TV performance since her infamous 2007 MTV Video Music Awards disaster, really wasn't all that different from that mess.

Despite the distractions of the Big Apple Circus setting and the abundant circus themed acts and suitably attired dancers around her (tipping her hat on her entire stage design for her upcoming "Circus" tour, coming to Mohegan Sun Arena March 24), she was still doing largely the lip synching bit and then just walks around the stage (not much of her great dancing from years gone by).

From the sound we heard at home, there was no evidence of live performance in there somewhere from anyone on stage not a single musician or piece of sound equipment visible, aside from her headset microphone that she kept adjusting (Britney, stop worrying! It's not on!).

Even her dance style, especially her second number "Womanizer," was that slow motion sleepwalk stomp that sank her on MTV. (At least this time she has the excuse of having to perform so early in the morning).

I don't want to be too rough on the girl and we can't expect too much from our overhyped pop stars. But singing and dancing are two things we can require.

Well how about interviewing? Enabling hosts Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts built their whole show around the appearance coinciding with Britney's 27th birthday. There was plenty to ask in the wake of her other glossy magazine interviews or her similarly hyped MTV special. But there were barely two questions asked afterwards. And in one of them, Sawyer had to give the news herself of the spring 2009 tour.

"You're starting at home, right?" Sawyer asked helpfully.

Britney seemed confused. Then she said, "Yes, in America."

Proving maybe she really is an alien (that's how removed her performances with their treated vocals sometimes sound). And in this she seemed to be echoing the Coneheads: "We're from France."
Yes she looked fabulous, if you like women whose pants are falling off (song one) or are falling out of their tap pants (song two).

In a future "Good Morning America," the mutually benefiting Britney hype all but forgotten, Sawyer will anchor a segment on oversexual styles from pop stars having a bad influence on our youth.

Now let's break for the weather.

Britney just walks aroud the stage and lip-synchs. She sould either dance great and lip-synch like she used to do. Or just walk around the stage like she is doing now and really sing. She does not do either one. All your real singers can sing and walk arount the stage. And some can even sing well while they do some dancing. So the exuse that Britney can't sing because she is dancing so hard is bull. She is not dancing or singing.

That is what talent is folks. It is the ability to do it, and Britney can't do it at all. she is a fake!

Given the events of the past 18 months or so, expectations for Britney are so low that if she actually shows up, makes it through an entire performance, and doesn’t make a total fool of herself, it’s considered a complete success.

The big issue here isn’t lip syncing. She does that, everyone knows it, and it doesn’t seem to be an issue for her fans (who are probably too young to remember Milli Vanilli). I don’t even think that these uninspiring, derivative performance (basically Madonna in a can) are really an issue – Brit’s fans put up with 15 minute performances during her so-called “House of Blues” tour last year, and loved it. Doubtless, many will pay to see her live, even if it is a lip synched, warmed over Madonna performance.

The real issue is whether this kind of performance is going to win her many new fans. Let’s face it, Britney was never a particularly gifted musician – her fame rests almost entirely on her moves in past live performances and videos. I’m no fan, but in her prime, she had that undefinable ‘it’ that briefly made her one of the biggest acts in the entertainment business. This appeal had its limits – it clearly didn’t spill over into the realm of acting, for instance – but for a while, she was one of the biggest acts out there. More importantly, she had sharp management and made good $$$ during her brief time at the top.

The problem is that a lot of the ‘it’ she used to have was based on her image as jail bait near-porn. She doesn’t have that any more, and at 27 year old with two kids, I don’t think she can get it back. It will be interesting to see how the sales figures go for Circus next week. My guess is that they will be similar to, or very slightly better than Blackout last year. Lots of people will say that Blackout was not promoted by the label. True, but when your artist is on the covers of every tabloid magazine or website, and frequently on the 6:00 news, then for good or bad, everyone knows that she has an album coming out, and promotion is superfluous. I suspect that the same people who bought Blackout will buy Circus, but not many more.

I am sorry but shitney sucks. Her dancing is a joke. She used to be good at dancing, what the hell happened. It is bad enough we have to watch her try to lip-sing to the words, now we have to watch her dance around and wave her hands. Dam girl find someone better to teach you dance moves. I move better than that when I am on my way to the toilet to take a shit.

Consider the recent revelations about Britney, in the light of her ‘comeback’.

Rolling Stone made it clear that all questions in their interview were pre-approved, and that they never interviewed Britney without her handlers being present.

Presumably, something similar was in force for the so-called tell-all documentary -- In other words, nothing was in the documentary that her father/her management didn't want to be there.

In all her appearances, the only thing she has done is perform (notice that I didn’t say ‘sing’). She has had next to no interaction with anybody, and her answers tend to be monosyllabic mumbles.

It’s pretty clear that Britney is far from being recovered from the troubles of the last two to four years. It seems to me that recording an album is one thing – quite possibly it would be therapeutic activity for her and thus beneficial. But going out and touring with her in that condition seems insane for every possible reason, except one – financial.

It’s the dirty little secret of the modern music business that with recorded music sales as they are, no one gets particularly rich from them alone. The real money is in touring, and in tour related merchandise. That’s where the bulk of Britney’s current fortune (however much of it is left) came from.

It would seem to me that Britney’s management realize that financially, an album is virtually worthless unless there is a tour. Perhaps they realize that there isn’t much more that can be squeezed out of her, and they want to make as much money as they can while there is still money to be made.

You can hear her singing in parts, this performance was better than the ones in Europe. She looks great. She is getting better with every performance so maybe it is just getting into the swing of things again that has held her back. With all the scrutiny she recieves and what she has been through it would be expected.
