In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, the entertainment media's love affair with Britney Spears continued throughout 2008.

The pop star ranks No. 1 for the year in USA TODAY's Celebrity Heat Index, which measures exposure in print and online entertainment news outlets. Spears, who was No. 1 in 2007, took the top spot 11 weeks this year, the most of any celebrity. Among those weeks were highs and lows: Her most recent No. 1 ranking resulted from the Dec. 2 release of Circus, which also took the No. 1 spot in album sales in its first week out. She first appeared at No. 1 on the index in January, when she had two stints in psychiatric wards after displaying erratic behavior.

This index is skewed, there is no way she beat out Obama. They must be considering him a politician even though he is a pop star just like this idiot!

What is so ironic is that the VAST MAJORITY of people looking at Britney stories in 2008 were not doing so because of her singing and dancing abilities. Most people just wanted to find out what stupid publicity stunt she pulled on any given day, and rarely did a day go by that she let us down.

wow, what a difference a year makes, shes back on track ready to tour a very very successful album that i give an A++++ shes done amazing, and all of those who gave up on her thinking she would never be the same or thought britney was being ignorant at the time and all, Shame on you! I never gave up on her I was praying to god everyday for her well being. And thats the way god proved it, I'm very happy e got out old Brit Back but this time.. Forver!

This isn't an honor. It's more of an admission by the press of thier constant and unrelenting harrassment of Britney. During her breakdown was the most gross invasion I've ever witnessed and to praise yourselves for contributing to what was the worst time of her life is sickening.
I wish her the best, not because she's a Pop Icon but because she's human and deserves to have respect for her dignity, not exploitation.
