I had to learn how to do this to save our son's life. It is traumatic and after the events finally led to his being committed, the court ordered 6 months or more, whatever was needed, for him to be committed, and they let him out in 2 weeks, because the mental health facilities and doctors say that it's important that they have a GOAL or that being there longer can be more HARMFUL to them. I don't know why we wasted our time, hearts and money..When they let him out it put me in prison more than anyone else, all of the medical orders and legal stipulations and consequences that happen after they are committed only seem to punish the person in charge, us, all of us, while the patient just angrily or silently does what they need to to get through the process, then they pick up where they left off. You can't LEGALLY make ANYONE take medication etc...Thankfully 12 years later our son is clean, sober, working and engaged to be married, but he did it, we did not. As the counselors tell the family, you did not cause it, you can't control it. It's not your fault even if they die, was the hardest thing I had to hear. Talk about being in shock when you thought you were doing what you had to do, and the hard part is you want to see positive results. Just God Bless her and her family, it's very hard.
