Did Britney's and Paris' Pets Come From Unethical Puppy Mills?

belairpetstore.jpg
Los Angeles Animal Services has shut down Pets of Bel Air, known as the "Pet Store to the Stars" due to its popularity with Britney, Paris, Denise, Demi and others (see video below), due to expired operating licenses, according to ET.

Although the agency is still checking into whether or not the store has acted illegally, at this point, they can still re-open within 48 hours with the right permits.

However, this comes on the heels of a months long investigation by the Humane Society, which claim that employees of Pets of Bel Air "routinely deceived customers by falsely claiming that all puppies sold at the store, which is frequented by Hollywood celebrities, are raised by private breeders and that the store doesn't buy from puppy mills."

So what does this mean for A-list pets and their owners?

Probably just that they're much better off now that they're in loving homes!

I wouldn't be surprised. Those puppies look too young to be separated from the mothers. But these BIMBO'S don't care about anyone or anything but themselves and their money. Selfish.

I agree....these poor animals have no say in where or who they go to. I am all for shutting the petstore down animals have every right to live on this earth like we do!

Some guy tried to sell me a puppy outside the dollar store. Should I be concerned?

These bitches are so self absorbed they don't care where the puppies or anything else comes from. Very sad. Maybe some of these bitches should open up an animal shelter to care for these helpless animals (if they are so concerned about their pets)& show their children that someone does care@

Posted by: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

The puppies are already alive, and they have gone to good homes. These animal rights people care more about animals than they do people.

They don't care what people they harm in their activities.

Britney Spears is the most worthless disgusting bitch on the planet. she doesn't care about anyone but herself. She is a child abuser. and probably an animal abuser too. She is an arrogant fat whore, who is ugly inside and out.
WHORE!

2PM How do you know they have gone to good homes? stop making excuses for Fatney Spears.

I think BOTH BRITNEY and PARIS THEMSELVES came from UNETHICAL PUPPY MILLS. They BOTH look like UNSANITARY BITCHES who were PREMATURELY SEPARATED FROM THEIR MOTHERS and DID NOT RECEIVE THEIR PROPER VACCINATIONS!

Posted by: BLACKOUT FLOPPED!

Oh look! There's the tape where Britney steals the puppy! But you cut it off just at the point where she slips the pup into Alli's plastic bag.
Did the pet store have an APB put out for the pup?

Posted by: bogie

of course they are all from puppy mills and commercial breeders. if you actually believe they have "champion dogs" at pet stores you need to have your head checked. People with champion dogs sell to people who show dogs, NEVER pet stores.

Posted by: videodoll

The reason why people like Britney and Paris get pets from a pet shop is that respectable breeders wouldn't sell a puppy to either of them. The adoption process is just short of what you'd expect to adopt a child, and the waiting lists are long. Celebs like Brit and Paris act like their dogs are accessories, no different than a new purse or pair of shoes. With that attitude, where else can they go but a pet shop?

Good work x17 for asking these questions and raining these issues.

Look at that pic of Britney in the middle of the 2 shots of Paris. If you had to choose, which one would you be???

The real story here is the HSUS has committed the biggest fraud on the American public once again.

Pet Stores are required by federal law to buy their animals from USDA licenced facilities. People who raise dogs are small individual breeders, the Pet Store did not lie.

Puppy Mills are unlicensed facilities, these breeders are USDA inspected and licensed facilities. No law has been broke and no deception has been committed expect by the HSUS on the unsuspecting public.

America has the best breeders in the world and we as Americans enjoy the companionship of millions of dogs and cats in our homes every year, we do so for one simple reason the business
of raising dogs is very competitive and because of this Breeders work very hard n quality and managing cost so you as an average American can afford to have the great purebred dog of you choosing. No one any where in the world has this option. So instead of being jerks you should be applauding the great dogs we as Americans have been blessed to own and have.

PS Stop giving your money to the HSUS thugs.. they lie and try to deceive the American public every change they get in their efforts to get into your pocketbook.

These pet stores that peddle puppies need to be shut down. Of course they get the pups from mills, and it's disgusting and inhumane. Celebs who buy them are either ignorant or heartless.

That rant about HSUS and breeders was clearly posted by an illiterate, uneducated trailer-park fool, and no commment is even necessary on his remarks.

NO reputable breeder would EVER sell a puppy to a pet store. A breeder who CARES about his pets ONLY sells to individuals after lenghty applications. Of course the pets at pet stores are from puppy mills, or at best, from irresponsible 'backyard breeders.

H$U$ is just a more mild version of peta the American terrorist group. Both groups are very open in their goal of ending pet ownership. No circuses, no cheeseburgers, no rodeos, no family pet..nothing..that is their goal. One way to implement this goal is ending all dog breeding and marketing outlets like pet stores as horrible places to buy your pets. they promote only getting from a shelter and mandatory spay/neuter laws. If everything is spayed and neutered, eventually you will have NONE. If you close all the breeders, you will have no baby animals. One current problem of this is the importation of puppies from other countries like Mexico and eastern europe..where they don't have the licensing and inspections that we do here in the US.
Over 500,000 puppies are sold thru pet stores in the US- these come from licensed and inspected facilities that specialize in raising healthy puppies. Taking care of the puppies AND the adults is only logical to someone who does it for a living. The rest is lies and propaganda from money hungry groups like H$U$.
When those group cite things like parasites(worms) or colds as a significant problem in a newborn baby, they fail to mention the parvo, distemper, colds and worms their own shelter dogs have..not to mention the mental health problems many of those "rescued" dogs have. They try and lame blame on breeders for over crowding but fail to mention that a high percenetage of dogs in shelters are of mixed breed/unknown heritage, not from pet stores, not from licesed breeders. You can visit petfinder and browse the ads for your area and see how many small breed purebred dogs are waiting in a shelter near you, to see I speak the truth
Brittany and the ilk may be spoiled brats and unworthy of owning a pet, but pet stores and licensed and inspected kennels are a fine place to purchase your next best friend. Don't let anyone shame you into thinking otherwise or pressure you with their propaganda!!

Sure, the pet stores puppies are better off in loving homes, but what about their parents? While their puppies sleep in a warm bed, their will live their entire lives in wire cages, being bred at every heat until they can no longer produce. Their parents will never experience a cuddle or a romp in the park. When they're no longer useful, they're disposed of. By buying a pet store puppy, you condemn their parents to a life of misery.

USDA licensing means nothing in terms of animal welfare. It is perfectly legal to let an animal live in a wire cage its entire life, never once taken out for exercise or play. Is this legal? Yes. Is this how a nation full of animal lovers agrees pets should be treated? NO!

Posted by: Anonymous

Pet stores will tell you anything to sugarcoat where the puppies they buy come from. Unless you yourself have physically seen the conditions in which your puppy was bred AND WHERE ITS PARENTS LIVE, you cannot truly believe that your pup did not come from a puppy mill. Did you know many puppy mills have automatic feeders and waterers so that they never have to actually touch their breeding stock? Imagine a dog going through life with never a pat on the head or a kind word.

Posted by: Anonymous

Ever see what those USDA licenced breeders look like? Just do a search on 'puppymill'. Better yet, call one of the ads in the paper and ask if their licenced. Then ask if you can look around their place...or take pictures! If their so great, why do they ban people?

As an adopter of a puppy mill rescue that spent two years of her life spinning around in her cage 24/7 -- from not only a USDA inspected "facility" but also an AKC inspected "commercial breeder" -- all I can say is the inspections are as worthless as a dog's registration papers. This dog is still an emotional wreck two years after her rescue. Puppy mills, the people who run them and the pet stores that sell their pups are greedy sickos.

Just because a breeding facility is licensed and inspected does not mean it is not a puppy mill. The breeders treat their puppies as "products." They neither know nor care if the puppies go to good homes or to morons who are incapable of caring for a dog. They have no way of knowing whether the puppies they produce are sound of temperment or structure. These breeders don't want to be bothered by the people buying their puppies; in fact, they hide behind brokers who sell the puppies to pet store for them. It's an ugly business run by ugly people.

Posted by: Anonymous

IT means nothing to the stars. They didn't know beforehand that they were buying puppy mill puppies and hopefully the Humane society will get Peta involved and splash it all over the news so that maybe stars who get pets in the future will do background checks before getting pets. Puppy mills end up creating inbred and unhealthy puppies. Just cuz they look clean and healthy does not mean that down the road they aren't going to start showing symptoms of diseases a normal non inbred pet would NOT have. Peta gets things done....Let's get them involved!

Everyone who buys a puppy from a petstore needs to go to a dog auction and see what the breeding adults look like. The auctions are nasty and disgusting! Many dogs are so afraid of people that they cower at the back of the wire crates when you approach them. Also, the older unsold puppies, many are broker rejects with health problems, are sold at the auctions. It is sad as many of these older puppies also have socialization problems.

I presently have 3 auction rescues at home and all have genetic health problems. 2 were rescued as puppies. Someone could have bought one of these puppies at a petstore and came home with a puppy who has a luxating patella and eye problems.

The anti-HSUS propaganda above is a bunch of B.S. They are not terrorists, and the comment about what will happen if all dogs are spayed and neutered actually made me laugh. Clearly this person has about two brain cells and tremendous hatred for those who oppose puppy mills and backyard breeding. It's great to see that no one here agrees with her.

Posted by: Nat

And the puppy millers put pressure on the government to call people "terrorists" who expose the truth about the puppy mills.

These are sleazy, disgusting criminals and they will do anything to keep abusing dogs for profit.
