How does the dysfunctional behaviors/illness affect the dependent person? For the substance dependent person, they completely lose their ability to predict accurately when they will start and stop their substance use. Because of this, they become engaged repeatedly and unexpectedly in such behaviors as:
• Breaking commitments that they intended to keep.
• Spending more money than they planned
• Driving under the influence that may result in DWI violations
• Making inappropriate statements to friends, family, and co-workers
• Engaging in arguing, fighting, and other antisocial behaviors
• Using more of the substance(s) than they had planned
• Lying

These types of behaviors violate their internal value system resulting in feelings of guilt, remorse, and self-loathing. However, these feelings get blocked by rationalizations. The rationalization is that "last night wasn’t that bad." The projection causes the individual to believe that "anyone would be doing what I am doing it they had to put up with what I do." The effects of such use of definses is to progressively lead the person to be out of touch with reality. This distortion becomes so solid that the individual using substnaces or engaging in other dysfunctional behaviors is the last to recognize that their behavior represents any type of personal problem.
What is an enabler? It is the person who reacts to the above symptom of illness or dysfunctional behavior in such a way as to shield and protect them from experiencing the consequences of their problem. Thus, they lose the opportunity to gain insight regarding the severity of their behavior. Without this insight they remain a victim of the defenses and are incapable of recognizing the need to seek appropriate and necessary help. Tragically, the enabler’s well-intentioned behavior plays an increasingly destructive role in the progression of the illness/dysfunctional behaviors.
The enabler may be in denial themselves about the significance or severity of the problem. Their thinking may be that the problem does not really exist or that it will disappear as soon as the real problem disappears. This makes the enabler highly vulnerable to developing beliefs and attitudes which victimize the individual engaging in a substance abusing/dysfunctional behaviors. The rationalizations of both persons are now supporting each other’s misunderstanding of the true nature of the problem. The result is that they are both engaged in a successful self-deception which allows the disease to remain hidden and to progress to a more serious stage.

Several cars were in line chasing the pop princess when one hit another photog on a motorcycle, throwing the rider off the bike and on to the road. i believe britney is partially to blame. she been obsessed with the pap attention surrounding her for years now - SHE NEVER TRIED TO CURTAIL IT!!

i think this inccident is going to PISS OFF THE GUHVUHNATOR AHHHRNOLD! i think he may pull out an even tougher law to restrain the paps now...

LOS ANGELES -- There were reports on Monday that a celebrity spotter -- who supplies information to the paparazzi -- was seriously injured while he was on his motorcycle chasing pop singer Britney Spears.

The incident occurred near the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, where Spears had apparently been spotted, NBC4 reported. Witnesses said the victim was moved to Cedars Sinai Medical Center after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.

Spears, who is a frequent target of celebrity photographers, was not directly involved in the accident.

An X17 paparazzi has just ran over another paparazzi on a motorcycle while chasing Britney Spears who had just come out of The Four Seasons Hotel. Our source tells us that this ocurred as the caravan of chasers were making a right turn on Santa Monica Blvd. and Rexford Dr. in Beverly Hills. The paparazzi was hit by a silver range rover and was literally smashed under its wheels. From what we hear, the body went into seizure and then it just stopped moving. It doesn’t look like he made it, according to our source.

7:35 PM PT Update:
We were just informed the paparazzo is alive, but in critical condition. He suffered broken legs, broken arms and a broken back, according to our source.

This has gotten totally out of control. I’m not blaming Brit directly for this, because she is not the one who hit the guy. But like I’ve pointed out before, you can’t court the press and then turn off the attention when you don’t want it. In the past, Brit has either herself phoned in tips to where she is going to be or had one of her people do it for her, so that the paps could meet her there and create a photo-op. There are even rumors that a certain agency, whom she asks for by name constantly and who always has “EXCLUSIVES” on her stories, is actually on her payroll (although lately, I’m not so sure, and after all it is just a rumor).

So it is no surprise that someone has gotten seriously injured in the act of following Brit around. She seems to think that she can have the paps there when she wants them to be, and then turn around and shoo them away when she doesn’t want them there. She just does not realize that it doesn’t work that way. This isn’t a game and she doesn’t get to make the rules.

The original story says that next time it might be Britney who is hurt. Well, next time it could be her sons. Or an innocent bystander. Remember when the Crazy Screaming Woman went after Brit and Jamie Lynn? What if that had been someone with a gun? There were little kids there at the time, screaming in fear from the crush of paps. What if someone had been seriously hurt then?

She creates this sort of chaos wherever she goes. What’s going to happen next time? If I was Kevin, I wouldn’t want my sons riding around in this sort of circus either.

Not saying she should be a prisioner in her house, but she needs to lay low and get out of the public eye for a while, instead of driving all over the place at all hours doing things she could easily send someone to do. But how much you wanna bet we’ll see her out tomorrow at Starbucks?

I wonder if Britney stopped when the accident happened? She must have wondered why they stopped following her. I hope to hear the whole (real) story soon.

Britney Spears is in no way at fault for this accident. She does not drive around excessively. Every time she goes out for five minutes, photographers swarm her, giving you the impression that all she does is drive around.

The photographers are the ones who need to back off, obey some laws, stop harassing people.
