Pope Benedict XVI has paid tribute to 17th-Century astronomer Galileo Galilei, whose scientific theories once drew the wrath of the Catholic Church. The Pope was speaking at events marking the 400th anniversary of Galileo's earliest observations with a telescope. He said an understanding of the laws of nature could stimulate appreciation of God's work.

In 1992, Pope John Paul said the church's denunciation of Galileo's work had been a tragic error.

Galileo used his scientific methods to demonstrate that the Earth revolved around the Sun and not the other way around. Sure. Right. Whatever. I have a friend who is an ordained minister, who told me he worked as a chaplain in the military and in prisons and he was involved in dealing with people of ALL beliefs. He also counseled non-religious spiritual people as well in a secular way. He took much heat for believing that religious people of all faiths pray to the exact same god and all were entitled to believe or not believe in whatever they wanted. He also took heat for believing that the bible is not the literal word of god, but interpretations of the faith. He never forced his beliefs on anyone and never took any type of moral superiority in any beliefs. He is a man of beliefs that I do admire because he is open minded to everyone (well maybe not satanists) and quietly followed his beliefs without pushing them.

Britney is overexposed. Most people have lost interest in her story or consider the c-ship the end of her story. Fewer posts makes sense (at least to me). Some people still come to these threads to talk from time to time.

Fire Horse (Huo Ma-my birth date). Earth Dragon (3 of the closet people around me-life long friends were born then). And Si Di- which means fatal flaw-Chinese for being aware and trying to find the short comings that we all have. Somewhat related to doing martial arts. Si Di was received when I got a ranking as an assistant. I passed out in the first attempt from severe heat exhaustion, so the partial retest was a victory.

A buddy had Da vinci's perfect man on his back and a drawing of his family in front of their house -drawn by his 3 y/o and directly copied to his chest. Those are two of the coolest tats I've seen!

Yes, Taoism with it's close cousin Buddhism thrown in for good measure. I am starting in Tai Chi and it is much more difficult than it looks, especially if it is done with full Chi (power) and done slowly! It's like the ultimate resistance exercise. The mental parts of it all take years longer than becoming practical in the physical side. My 67 y/o grand master can break a concrete cap block without pulling his hand away-a zero space hit-100% mental strike.

Yes, Vitruvian Man ( I was too lazy to google it). My instructor, now passed, was hilarious! When I got my ranking, he showed me a tape of when he broke most of his fingers trying to break a 4x4. He simply smiled and explained to me 'Oh, my focus was a bit off!' In the tape he said 'Thank you. I have broken all of my fingers, so I am done now.' Then he broke it with his other hand-it was slightly crack already and then bowed off screen, smiling.

Thank you. Despite having over 15 years of study in other areas, Tai Chi is kicking my ass, so to speak. I look forward to it. Sorry for my typos, I have two demanding birds sitting on me. Unfortunately, none are completely potty trained yet (smallish turds tho).

Forgive me, but I'm a bit confused about the former student. The guy with the power tat?-not a student and the tat was just another tat to him. We have no belts in our school, but as an assistant, I am also an instructor, just of a lower rank. There is no pressure for belts, since we don't have them. If you are proficient enough (usually 10+ years) and want to teach, you can earn an instructor patch. Have you ever studied anything? If not, you should. From talking to you, you might enjoy Tai Chi, Aikido, or certain types of internal Chinese systems. We have lots of Aikido in our system and it is very cool! You can easily match your personality to a system, if you study what they are about. I like Aikido because you use the other person's energy against them and you don't have to injure someone if that is desired.

Macaw, slight bird envy as doves are not quite as mentally interactive as Macaws are! I almost said intelligent, but that doesn't exactly work. Started with 3, now have 15 and I pull new eggs out almost daily to prevent a higher population. I know someone with an African Grey and it is sometimes too smart! I've seen it throw major tantrums when it people can't figure out what he wants of them. Complete frustration and then obvious relief when the humans get the clue!

Doves are lovely birds! It sounds like you’ve have quite a few clutches. My B&G is not as talkative as your friend’s Grey but she’s a character! People don't understand how emotional birds are until they live with one.

Yesterday, I introduced my B&G to a young Red-tailed Hawk who has taken up perching in a white oak outside my study and spreading his wings to soak up the afternoon sun. The two observed one another intently for a few minutes then settled into preening and causally observing one another. Obviously, it will be an unrequited love. ;)

Few understand that meaning, so I am impressed by that. I wanted to clarify internal, in case you're not sure what I meant. Internal means that focus is on the mental side more than the physical. Tai Chi is an internal form. Sorry if you already know that. If you ever asked a good instructor about taking internal arts, if they are not impressed with that question alone, find someone else. Tai Chi is also a slowed down form of a quite brutal physical style. Sped up it is actually very devastating. I teach, but not for money, but my instructor, now the head master does for a living. Plus, I can take money, but it would be removing potential income from him. We also cross train many other systems and if something that they know is very good, we sometimes adapt it to out system. This is referred to as an open system. Most systems are closed, mainly due to intense traditions. We sometimes trade ourselves and each other's student to each other to learn different things. Cross training is very good for keeping track of various things. All of the good instructors seem to like to do this. Instructors from belt mills typically don't. Some just don't like exchanges because they wish to keep their system pure, which is honorable. I learned some various Chinese animal styles from doing this. Crane and snake style appeal to my style and now it internalized in me and is part of what I teach, but not in a pure way. You really should check out some different systems. Call up the parks department if you are in a large city and ask if anyone does Tai Chi, many times you can just jump into public groups for free. Or just look it up. I jumped into a class in a park in San FRan on a trip and had a blast. I returned the favor and taught some people how to break holds and some escapes after the main class.

it's cool how different species can interact like that. The Inca dove I have is one that fell from a tree as a chick and I decided to save it-vs. killing it or watching it slowly die. She is completely bonded/imprinted to me and does all the mating tail fans and coos as if I am her mate. I learned how to raise her on the fly, but it all worked out fine. I bought diamond doves as companions, but she will not breed with any of the males and if they are too persistent, they lose a large beak full of feathers and get quite well pecked on. She allows some of the older birds near me, but tends to get jealous and pissed if they get too close to her. At night, I allow the cages to be open, because I can control them by darkening rooms I don't want them in. Most friends/family are used to it, but some still get freaked with all the flying going on in the room.

My B&G is fully feathered and flies to me when called (and whenever she smells the heady aroma of cinnamon she insists on flying to the source). I can't blame her. Excellent! You should just go up and talk to one of them after their class and see about jumping in. Tai Chi is just cool like that. The Tai Chi instructor is someone we were introduced to through a mutual instructor friend, who is an awesome Wu Shu master. The Tai Chi instructor Ji Hong, is from China and only speaks a few words of English, so the introduction made things easier. Her not speaking adds it own cool element to the class. She sometimes plays music of various types in class and we move in accordance to the flow. I brought in Carmina Burana one time and it was very intense to work to. We train in a park too-sometimes in our system and in Tai Chi all the time. No money has ever changed hands, although we have dragged Ji Hong off to a local Dim Sum place a few times.

Lots of people do the Hitchcock reference. My birds like spinach and mozzarella a lot, but spray millet is like bird crack to them.Hey, I've got to go in a few, but not immediately. I seriously hope you just give the Tai Chi a shot! Brushing teeth, be back in a few.

Your Tai Chi group sounds like a wonderfully eclectic blend of people and music. Unfortunately, life is such that I will have to lose my watch to find the time to participate in the group at the lake. If only we could create...more time!

Ok, well we are very specific about who we teach, as my instructor also teaches military Spec Ops people, who tend to be very private types. If anyone comes in wanting to beat ass or break arms, they are politely shown the door. I can see that there would be no hesitation in teaching you what we teach. Forgive me about not naming our system, as it is strictly word of mouth and not openly advertised. It is a Southern Chinese Temple system that has been adapted to close quarters combat with a lot of internal work thrown in to balance it out. Our aim is to avoid confrontation at all costs and it is too brutal to ever spar in tournaments with. We cross train for this reason and have to be very careful when going full speed. I have knocked out 2 teeth and broken my hand and cracked my hip bone along with the usual sprains, cuts, and contusions. We blot our blood stains on our training pants and I have a few pair that look camouflaged pants now. It's actually similar to how belts became colored. The older students and masters always had the nastiest belts. When they get nasty enough, they sort of turn black. I have never had a full fight with anyone, but I have stopped quite a few people who start being aggressive from continuing. Some were more difficult to attain compliance with, but no fights continued.

The Dancing Wu Li Masters! One of my friends gave that cook a few years ago! Form the title I thought it was another Martial Arts book and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't. And then there are the Peaceful Warrior series.. always wonderful but very different from the Wu Li Masters. Someone just gave me a strange book Called The Art of Shen Ku. All hand drawn and it kind of hit on everything. I'm not so much recommending it, but it is kind of coo, in its' own way. I really enjoy the book Scholar Warrior (Deng Ming-Dao) and Living the Martial Way (Forrest Morgan)- then the 5 Rings and of course, The Art of War which is almost universal. For complete brain fry, I have been looking into string theory as of late. Wu Li kind of sprouted interest in it.

I'm sure you've probably heard of verbal judo before too? That is our first line of defense from aggression. Most injuries in class come directly from loss of focus, but not always. Just like my GM's broken fingers. Ooops, broken fingers. We usually are intense much of the time in class, but when someone messes up, we usually end up taking a break until the laughing fully stops! Most people look at you funny when you tell them about a student who got a broken nose in class and wanted to continue but it was just too funny (and the bleeding took a while to stop) for him to continue. He slipped on dog crap and did a face plant! Somehow he couldn't keep a straight face, so neither could we! It also kept him safe from my instructor's correction staff!

There are 7 major religions in the world and thousands of ways they are practiced. No where did I read that anyone was drinking any koolaid or believing that God would heal a sick kid. I am a good person on the inside, and to me that is really all that matters. I am not too concerned about being over-run by ET and Spirits because I happen to believe that God always protects me from harm. I dont feel my experience on earth is 'quite sad'. I have had some sad experiences, but so has everyone else. We dont have to see eye to eye on things. Thank you for your concern however I dont feel as if I am being taken over by ETs or spirits...and if you want to believe that my happiness is just an illusion you can think that if you want. Sunnyday. we do not have the potential to live 300 years for simple biological reason. Our organs fail and this is generally due to outside sources such as heavy metals we ingest through our diets. You talk about the mind and claim ET's delude us and we can see things clearly which is just a different way of saying that we as humans suppress painful emotional events that there are triggers that we encounter that cause us to react and that you can take your palm and close the portal of the emotion which is not what occurs. Suppression of the memory is how we cope at the time simply put them away in an unconscious state in our brain until something triggers them to come back to conscious which causes chaos until we deal with the emotion and as we become aware our energy becomes depleted for a short period of time while we go to the source, deal with it and move on which is brain function working through a circumstance that affects us mentally and physically. Your statement of parasites is just a different way of stating that we accept, we learn to cope and the problem that once was put away is released because we become aware it exists and if we do not have the awareness it is why we do not have the energy to live longer life spans. You can think with your mind all day long that it is all about closing our bodies off to trauma but waving the hand will not cause the problems in life to disappear and relief to come.
