Keep in mind, CA laws are WAY different than where I am. Where I went to school, they even told us that CA law is very different than EVERYWHERE else! lol

I think I told you that I work as a Guardian ad Litem (representing kids), so this is pretty much my area of law. My very first case was an abuse case, and BOTH parents were very low IQ parents / borderline mentally retarded. It didn't help them avoid being charged by the state. However, they weren't world famous pop-stars either.

Keep in mind, when the state becomes involved with an abuse and/or neglect case, the main goal is ALWAYS re-unification, if it's at all possible. Goals are set up for the parent, and services are provided. The GAL will do an investigation (interview all the parties, anyone invovled with the children, etc), set up psych evals, drug testing, parenting classes, counseling, whatever is necessary. The parent MUST comply with these recommendations if s/he wants to get the child back into his or her custody. This goes for a "normal" parent or a mentally ill parent. There are some parents who are "mentally ill" that are quite capable of caring for their children.

Some, that take meds (and do NOT like to take them regularly, require a monitor to come over and WATCH them take their meds. The state will really work with the parent if the parent wants to get the child back.

In Britney's world, apparently, anything seems to go. It doesn't seem right that *IF* she abused those poor kids that she would get away with it. The story of abuse isn't in the news because it is being covered up. There are witnesses to the abuse, and medical records that her attorneys want SEALED. Why do you think they are so desperate to seal court records?? What is there in the records that they don't want getting out?? It is ABUSE, and Britney isn't being formally charged because her family is playing the insanity card. Otherwise, Britney would end up in jail.
