Brokeback to the Stage

HLEDGERVEN012208_011_X17.jpg
Rest easy, gay cowboys, the New York City Opera has commissioned composer Charles Wuorinen to write an opera based on the Academy Award-winning film Brokeback Mountain, according to Reuters.

Wuorinen, 70, said in a statement, "Ever since encountering Annie Proulx's extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that Gerard Mortier and New York City Opera have given me the opportunity to do so."

I guess a musical just wasn't gay enough, they had to do an opera?

I, for one, can't wait to see how they do the tent scene!
