You forgot to mention that Cook released his single after the 40 million viewer audience right AFTER the finale of American Idol. Crush was released months after the show has ended, this shows a TRUE feat. There hasn't been an idol related single that DIDN'T chart high. What makes Crush's debut so amazing is that it's the only single to have debuted as high as #2 in 18 months, and the highest charting non coronation single in AI history..tied with SUBG from Kelly Clarkson. Crush's add date to radiois still a week away, and so far the only promotion has been on the z100 station. Further emphasizing the enormity of David's accomplishment. He's successfully kept his idol fanbase and reached out to non fans into buying his song.

Z100 has not been the only promotion. Give me a break. By the time Crush went up on iTunes it was already near Top 40 and getting tons of stations adding it. You don't inch near Top 40 just on the basis of Z100 alone. Funny how the media or the Archie fanatics didn't say a word when Cook "crushed" him by 600,000 downloads the week after the finale

Cooks TOML, should be doing a lot better considered it was debut in front on 40 million people than sang on every major talk show for 2 weeks straight than played at the olympics and he gets to sing it on tour. Little Archie had no promotion, hasn't sung it once live yet, isn't singing it on tour. Its amazing amazing for his single to be so high on the charts with such limited promotion. In addition it #7 in Canada, and # 16 in the World Charts...Wow!!!!! Cook will do just fine.. Right now its Archies moment and what a moment it is!!!

David A is talented but a geek and he is so dorky and inarticulate in interviews.
Yeah he got downloads, but his song is losing spins on radio stations.
Cook's song is requested way way more.
So all of the little tweens and middle aged people who want to mother the nerd downloaded the song, but the young group who requests music does not like Archie boy, because he is a goofy nerd.

He will not outdo Cook in radio play.

A little context please. Cook's #3 placement was based on four days of sales in that period, not a whole week like Archie's. Cook still outsold him by 70,000 downloads nonetheless.

But, more importantly "Time Of My Life" is not Cook's REAL single. It's the cheezy winner's song that he has to sing. It has the lyric "magic rainbow" in it, for god's sake!

Although, there is one way in which "Crush" and TOML are comparable. Neither David wrote their song. Unlike, Archuleta, Cook actually will be writing his own REAL songs.

TOML is the single of Cook's cd whether you like it or not. 90% of Cook fans seem to like it.

INARTICULATE? Pleezz...David Cook, young but old enough to manage his way through interviews, worked as a bartender, I am sure exposed to alot of adult conversation! Then you have David A, a 16 yr old from Utah, who is not exposed to much, but regular teen activities on a daily life and then you put him on the spot interviews on NATIONAL TV! WOW! How do you think a teen should respond?! I give credit to both, they just appeal to different types of people.

Archuleta had his own hardships as well..he won Star Search but only to suffer vocal paralysis later on. It's amazing he still has such a big voice..a gift from above? I don't mind if he's inarticulate sometimes..it's what makes him genuine and it's really cute!

Well Archie fans, his single is tumbling down ITunes and not going anywhere on the radio. All of the soccer mommies who want to mother him downloaded his CD, so did the nerdy little girls, now it's stalled. And it's losing steam already.

Cook's song is did way better on ITUNES and still has more airplay.
The nerd with his wacko daddy will not appeal to teens and young people who are not into geeks.

Looking at the numbers, DC sold 236,024 copies of ToML in four days of sales for his first week, for an average of 59,006 per day. DA sold 166,247 copies of Crush in six days of sales for his first week for an average of just shy of 27,708 per day. So Archie’s sales rate was around 47% of DC’s on a per-day basis. (Actually, Crush’s performance, on a per day basis, was pretty similar to Dream Big’s from that first four-day week.) Even if you assume that half of DC’s sales that week were because of proximity to the finale—which, given ToML’s continued sales seems pretty tenous to me, but I’ll assume it for these purposes—DC’s per-day sales still would have been (slightly) higher than DA’s.

In short, even if you assume that DC got extra sales because his first week sales were right after the finale, and don’t take into account that some DC fans just couldn’t stomach the thought of buying the Magic Rainbow song, I just don’t see how someone can accurately say that DA outperformed DC. Outcharted in a qualitatively different week? Sure. Did very well? Sure. Outperformed? Not so much.
