David Beckham might not need anyone to tell him how to handle a soccer ball - but the American press corps is a different game entirely! After all, the footballer has a reputation back in Europe for being shy and reluctant around the press, relying instead on Victoria to keep the couple's profile high. Lucky for David, then, that he's got some friends with more than a little experience handling the press - like Tom Cruise!
News of the World is reporting that ever since coming to America, David's mannerisms around the media have been awfully reminiscent of Tom's - the wide-thrown arms, the emphatic gestures with the left hand, even the pocket handkerchief he's been wearing are all Tom trademarks! Might Tom simply be acting neighborly? Or could his lessons be part of an effort to win the Beckhams to the side of Scientology?
Hopefully in between all those sessions about pocket-squares and hand-positions, Tom found time to teach David the real difference between the UK and the US:
"Nonono - this is a football. Over here, you're a soccer player."
