BREAKING NEWS - Farrah Fawcett Succumbs To Cancer
Farrah Fawcett, who became an icon for a generation with a famous swimsuit poster that hung on the walls of millions of teenaged boys, died this morning at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica.
Fawcett was diagnosed with anal cancer in February of 2006 and began receiving treatment at UCLA hospital in Los Angeles. An administrative worker was discovered to have been selling Fawcett's medial information to The National Enquirer. The worker was fined and charges were filed, however the UCLA employee died of cancer before the trial.
On Farrah's 60th birthday, the Associated Press reported the actress was cancer-free. However, in 2007, the cancer returned and metastasized to her liver. She sought alternative treatments in Germany before returning to her home in Malibu.
Fawcett shot to stardom in the 1970s as Jill Munroe on Charlie's Angeles. Her TV debut coincided with the release of her iconic swimsuit poster which sold an amazing 12 million copies. Her distinctive feathered hair style became the look of the decade and an international style known simply as "the Farrah."
Later in her career, Fawcett earned praise as a serious actress. She earned Emmy nominations for her roles in The Burning Bed and Extremities.
Fawcett was divorced from Lee Majors and since 1982 has been romantically linked with Ryan O'Neal. The couple had one son, Redmond, who has struggled through drug addiction and spent time in jail.
Fawcett was 62 years old.
So sad to see a legend gone at such a young age.
