It's very sad and the world loved him. His daughter is the true loser in all of this. Matilda will never know what a wonderful man he was.

First, let me say that I am shocked and terribly saddened by Heath's passing and I wish for peace and serenity to his family in this hard time.

Here is my guess as to what happened. Heath had been jetting around the globe this last week- London, Australia, New York. He was also suffering from a lack of sleep, was a heavy smoker and most recently, suffering from pneumonia. I think that his body was terribly weakened by all the above factors and that the pneumonia killed him.

You know, Heath hasn't looked very healthy at all in the past year or so. His skin was always so ashen looking and he just looked "dull", like he didn't have much life force left in him.

Whatever the case, this is such a great tragedy and the big screen has lost a true gem. Rest in peace, Heath.

Pneumonia doesn't kill the young usually. It kills the old. It kills the young with combined with drugs which suppress breathing. Anna Nicole had pneumonia, too, when she died of a drug overdose.

If he had pneumonia, I wonder how long he had it, and why he hadn't gone to a doctor or checked into a hospital. People just don't get pneumonia that fast and die that quickly. There is something more to this story; not too sure if there were also drugs involved or ???

Please people, don't jump to conclusions. If he had pneumonia and was taking sleeping pills it was an accident waiting to happen. My husband thought he had the flu in early October, but woke up in the middle of the night saying he felt like he was drowning. I took him to A&E and he was diagnosed with pneumonia and that if we had waited 2 more hours to take him in, he would have died. I for one never knew pneumonia could come on so quickly and be fatal so quickly, so if Heath was taken sleeping pills, which then made him unable to rouse himself sufficiently to get help, he may just drowned in his own lung fluid.

This is a tragedy for someone so young and he appeared to be a good daddy to Matilda. I hope Michelle lets Matilda know her aussie family so they can keep her connected to her daddy.

How do you know he was wonderful? People frequently idolize the dead, making them out to be more than they were in real life. In reality, he was a high school dropout who acted in movies, took drugs, had sex and impregnated a woman and had a child out of wedlock. He continued to take drugs after the child was born. To me, that is a horrible father, not a wonderful father. Just horrible. Most likely, he might have had a touch of pneumonia, not enough to be in the hospital, took some drugs which suppressed his already impaired lung function, and died as a result, very similar to Anna Nicole Smith's death.

It is so sad to see the film industry loose one of it's greatest actors!!

While Heath may not have intended to commit suicide, the fact is he was clearly troubled
- pneumonia is not to be taken lightly, it's brought on by exhaustion -- mental and physical
- the reports say he was found with both prescription and non-prescription pills. I doubt very much that when the doctor prescribed his pills he would have said "it's ok to take them when you have pnemonia" or "it's ok to mix and match". Whether he wanted to kill himself or not, when people start "supplementing" their medicines it IS a warning
- he did have drug issues (YES he had them -- he was in rehab and it was one of the reasons for the divorce)
- where was his network of friends and family? THIS is the only thing that helps an individual get through trying times

Lesson to us all
- who do YOU know (faminly, friends) who are isolated, troubled, sick, have had trouble with substance abuse, have had major upheaval in their lives
- LET THEM KNOW YOU'RE THERE FOR THEM AND TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM AND THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE WITH THEM IN IT!!!!!

You are a bunch of idiots, a young man can not die from taking a handful of xanax and ambien.....the fact of the matter is that this gentleman, a fine actor was a heavy smoker and had the look of one, ie sallow skin tone. He probably died of an arrythmia, This is difficult if not imposible to find on a prelim or post mortum autopsy.....I am a board certified physician....Drugs probably played absolutely no part in his death unless his blood alcohol level, or ggt, ast, alt were high consistent with heavy etoh abuse. A proper autopsy should and would have ruled out severe coronary disease. I have seen more than a few heavy smokers with a tight left main coronary lesion or tight proximal LAD lesion and die.....Does anyone remember the profesional athlete daryl Kyle....died at 33 of advance coronary disease....if the autopsy was comple that would rule this out.....Mixing large amounts of alcohol and quite a few tablets of benzodiazapines, and/or ambien still would be unlikely to cause this mans death. I have seen countless od's on whole bottles of this stuff and not once has anyone died.....Only situation that could cause a death of this nature would be that he had taken some vicodin, percocet or other opiates in conjunction....A urine tox screen takes about 10 minutes to complete in an er....ten days is a joke....the only thing that would take 10 days is to isolate a particular type of narcotic or benzodiazapine via hair sample or blood tests using HPLC.....come on. I can make an OD diagnosis in 15 minutes. This ten day thing is just press whooey....The likelyhood is extremely slim that any "anxiolitic" or ambien could have caused his death....I see people every day that od on these things.....almost imposible to expire from even a whold bottle of each unless mixed with a ton of etoh (alcohol), or some street narcotics. The guy definitely had the voice and sallow skin tone commesurate with very heavy smoking....He looked older than his stated age, clearly to me. An "inconclusive autopsy" means to me that he had clean coronaries....The press and laymen publications are lying that it takes 10 days to determine if there was anything in his system....in reality a urine tox, and a bal, (blood alcohol level) take 10minutes to do.....For you backwards white trash hicks, I cannot believe you guys have the stones to say he deserves what he did to take a role in brokeback mountain....that takes courage, and fortitude not to be type casted.....
