I think this is an absolutely tragic loss. If an accident- one of the most tragic. If he took his own life, I hope he know finds peace. My thoughts go out to his family & friends, he will be dearly missed.

While I am inclined to agree that his death was an accidental overdose, the manner of death doesn't diminsh the fact that there is now a two year old without a father. I was surprised at how much his death affected me; what a stark reminder of how fragile life really is. RIP

Ok, I have to put things in perspective. This is not a tragic loss. Is it sad? Yes. Especially for the little girl who will grow up without knowing her father. However, tragic covers things like the genocide in Darfur, the raping of women in the Congo for the purpose of controlling a population, thousands of people dying of aids in Africa because they cannot get the medications they need, hunger and poverty worldwide. These things are tragic. The loss of anyone, especially one so young is always hard to hear, but when that person had some control over the manner of their death, it makes it that much more difficult to call it 'tragic'. JMO

We may have not known this man, but it is extremely sad to see a someone die that was an amazing actor and even more, a wonderful father. I think what bothers me is 1)that he is just a year older than me and it reminds me of how fragile life is and 2) there is a daughter who will live her life never knowing her father beyond the stories her family tells her about him. My heart truly goes out to his family and loved ones who are grieving. I deeply hope that one day their pain is eased by knowing what a loving person he was. RIP.

It will likely be a lot longer than 7 to 10 days before the cause of death is known if the toxicology report does not show a cause. It could be 30 days or longer until the final report on extensive examination of the vital organs that was removed from the body is complete.

No one knows......I hope it was not suicide. If it was because of his meds.....hopefully this will start something for people who see multiple doctors to get meds. I am not saying that is what he did.....If he saw one doctor for depression and then saw another for something else, that doctor has no idea he may have been prescribed something else. Anyone can knowingly take more than the required dose, without knowing how much can be fatal. Most people don't know that mixing certain types of different medications can be fatal. Hence the term "accidental".

5:49-- you're completely right. People abuse prescription drugs and don't realize what is going on inside their body because they think because they were prescribed they will be okay. I know from recent experience (dad passed) they give cancer patients a lot of Ambien before they die because this relax them and speed the dying process up from "overdose."

The reason why Heath's death has affected so many people when there are obviously worse things going on in the world is because we are still alive to worry about those horrible things another day, Heath is NOT! Of course I didn't know this man personally, but when people are actors we kind of feel as if we do know them because of they way something they did touched us, affected us personally! Although no one denies, or is unsympathetic, to all the sadness in the world, some of us are too far removed from it for it to make as big an impact on us. Last, the man was only 28 years old--that is also another reason his passing has made such a huge impact on people. I know when I look at the local obituaries and see someone this young or younger has died, it makes me sad even if I don't know them, because death is so final; their time has elapsed. It was a brief time, and now all we and the people who were closer to these people have left is our memories of them, and the realization of exactly how short life is. 7:40, I appreciate your post. It was well thought out and concise. This man's passing is a reminder that life is fragile and our own mortality is eminent. However, as tragic an incident as this is for HIS FAMILY, and it is a tragedy for his family and friends; I do not see it as a tragic event for the world.
The melodrama night after night on the television programs, the internet sites plastered with the latest headlines, etc., these 'journalists' are making money hand over fist on people who are buying into what a tragedy this is. Next week, no one will be uttering his name. When is the last time someone spoke about River Phoenix, Chris Farley, Jim Belushi, or Chris Penn unless another actor has met some untimely demise.
I may seem callous, but if people put in even an iota of the time and effort they do into mourning these idols, perhaps we could see some changes in these areas that are so "far removed' from them. The world really isn't that big anymore. Ignorance and apathy aren't acceptable excuses. And as you pointed out, because it could happen to any of us at any time, we should be doing all we can to make the world just a little better. If everyone did that, can you imagine what a great place it would be for everyone?

This absolutely is a tragedy, for his loved ones and particularly that little baby he left behind. Of course he made mistakes, and if he was an addict then God love him, because that's a terrible thing. But this is still very sad, he was so young and talented. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, I hope that they can find peace and some way to cope with this terrible loss.

My guess is he had an undetected heart condition that with the combination of the sleeping pills, lack of sleep, and over strenuous schedule put too much stress on the heart and it quit working. Years of drug abuse probably damaged his heart in conjunction with the undetected condition. It was only a matter of time when it would give out.

His father says he was strong but maybe when it came to his personal relationship he was not
strong on the inside. There must have been warning signs or cries for help that went unnoticed.
Maybe Heath just missed his daughter and ex and wanted to see them and did not know how to express himself. Maybe he just felt like shit especially because he was just filmimg and sick at the same time, figured he try a couple pills together and just never woke up because he fell in a deep sleep and just suffocated with his face in the pillow.
However you can't help your state of mind if you hang out with somoene like Mary-Kate who takes drugs and has been in rehab. It was clear this relationship for him was a rebound relationship. He hung out with someone younger that would allow him to do what
he wanted negative or positive and not criticize him. Mary-Kate was a party and fuck buddy. He kept the relationship private and they were not exclusive. Huh!, I wonder why?( the explanations could go on and on).
He clearly was not in a positive state of mind and probably had not been for a while.

What makes your death so abrupt, so untimely is because death is never expected; even when someone is sick,and
when death comes for them it is hard for the people around them to accept.
