i quit after 18 yrs. - nicotine gum saved my life! (quit that after 12 weeks, never went back)

I definitely need to quit, must try nicotine gum. They could at least make that stuff cheaper.

I started smoking when I was 16. I quit at 50. One day I had the flu w/sore throat, etc. and it actually hurt to smoke but I still kept trying. Finally I said forget it and didn't smoke for 3 days cuz my throat still hurt. I didn't even miss smoking so I just never lit up again. That was two years ago. I heard somewhere that the average person quits about 7 times before it 'sticks'. I NEVER thought I'd quit even though I knew I shouldn't smoke. And then it just happened. It was like a gift. I'm so proud of myself for not lighting up after I recovered from that flu.

Anyone who wants to stop smoking? you've got to read Allan Cars book, "Give Up Smoking the Easy Way" I read it, changed my life. Nicotine is not that addictive, this book will change your perceptions.

I agree. I'm a smoker and its not the nicotine I'm addicted to, its the habit.
I tried this new medication that blocks the nicotine receptor site in the brain, but it didnt stop me from smoking.

I'm 45 and I started smoking when I was 17. I was doing 12 a day but when I learnt that my great Auntie died of Lung cancer when she was 67 it was a hell of a wake up call. at age 37 I quit altogether and I cannot believe how good I feel these days.
