Jody knew better than to stay closeted for this long. Celebrities NEED to come out because kids who ARE being raised in Homophobic families and towns / cities, NEED role models! They need to KNOW they are not alone, and if the parents find out that one of their idols is Gay, then maybe (just ... maybe?) they might not be so hard on their poor kids, for being Gay or being Gay-leaning.

I happen to think Jodie is fabulous and good on her for coming out after all this time. Then again, who didn't know?! She's been a lesbian icon for years anyway, at least now shes talking openly about it.

Abbie in Seatle: Why do you think she HAS to come out? Why is it any of our business? She is one of the few celebrities who has kept her private life private, which she has every right to do. We berate the celebs that are out running around in the public eye doing stupid things yet when a celeb isn't out parading around in every magazine, the public hates that as well. Based on what happened with Hinkley years ago, she has every right to keep her business private. If you had some crazy stalker trying to assassinate the president to get your attention, you might be a little guarded as well.

Just the fact that Jodie needed this much time before getting up the nerve to thank her partner during an awards speech shows how much pressure still exists to not share details about her personal life. Unfortunately she must have spent a lot of time and effort trying not to bring attention to this button issue in order to protect her loved ones and protect her career. I am hoping the media and the public will not make a lot of unnecessary drama about this and let the girl finally be comfortable in her own skin. I will always admire her as an actress although I thought The Brave One was way too predictable. Oh well, they can't all be classics.

as a devout christian i am saddened that jodie foster is an atheist,but i am happy that she has said that she will be okay with her children making their own choice.hopefully they will embrace christ and accept the gift of salvation that he is willing to give to all 6 billion of us.all the christians who read this please pray for her and her family.
