Supermodel's Body Found In Seine River
The world of fashion was rocked last week by the discovery of Yves St. Laurent's top model Katoucha Niane's body in the Seine river.
Katoucha (who went by her first name), one of the first African models to attain global prominence, had been reported missing nearly two months ago; she was last seen returning home from a party back in January.
At this early stage, police aren't pursuing foul play as a motive for Katoucha's death, positing instead that the model might have simply fallen into the river accidentally. Authorities have already reportedly found Katoucha's handbag safely onboard her houseboat.
In addition to her modelling work, Katoucha was also known as a staunch opponent of female circumcision, having started the Katoucha Pour la Lutte Contre l'Excision Foundation to bring awareness to the problem. Katoucha's commitment was so profound, in fact, that despite the personal risk involved, she even visited countries where the barbaric practice was still carried out!
X17 videographers happened to be walking past the Garigliano Bridge on Friday when authorities recovered Katoucha's body from the river and duly recorded the sad scene.
Our condolences to the whole Niane family for their loss.
Hopefully Katoucha's death brings the issue of female circumcision back to the forefront - we'd hate to think she died in vain!
