Why is doing community service embarassing? More people should get out there and give a little of themselves and their time to help others. Community service is not given as a sentence in order to embarrass someone. It is given in order to try to show them that there are people and services out there who could use some help, and they could better contribute to society by helping out. Community service, if done correctly, and with the right attitude, can help build a person's self esteem by showing them that other people really do value them for what they can do to help. Many criminals, drug addicts, alcoholics are searching for their real place in the world, and community service can help bolster their feelings of genuine self-worth, not just false self-esteem based on nothing but publicity.
