Last night Bai Ling and Lionel Richie (no, your eyes aren't playing tricks on you) were spotted on a date at Whist at the Viceroy in Santa Monica, and the two looked very enamored with one another! An X17 videographer tells X17online exclusively:

"Lionel was rubbing Bai's back, and the two sat very close to one another in the booth. It looked like a very romantic dinner, and even though the two arrived and left in separate cars, they were clearly meeting up for a date!"

What would Nicole say!? Can you imagine if Bai became...her STEPMOM!?!

We spotted Lionel Richie leaving the super-exclusive Italian restaurant Madeo in West Hollywood last night.

On the way out, a photographer asked Richie if he thought there was "foul play" involved in Michael Jackson's death.

"No, I just think it was a sad occasion," Richie said.

We caught up with the legendary Lionel Richie at Maxfield on Friday, and he was gracious enough to chat with us!

And in anticipation of Nicole's 27th birthday today, he of course wished his daughter some congrats. What a sweet dad!

Good ol' Lionel Richie - he's always more than willing to pleasantly chat with the paps! When we bumped into him at Fred Segal's a few days ago, he was only too happy to expound on the joys of being Harlow's grandfather as he walked to his car. Thanks, Lionel - you've got one lucky granddaughter!

Sadly, we only got a few seconds of face time with Lionel Richie last night as he pulled up to Nobu for dinner. Too bad - but then again, we probably should have known that Lionel Can't Slow Down!

A very proud Lionel Richie was spotted exiting Samy's Camera (might he have been picking up a new camera in preparation for baby pix?), where he laughed and joked with the paps, seeming very excited about his new role as Grandpa.

Hello, Lionel! We ran into Nicole's proud papa outside of Koi last night, and the soon-to-be grandfather came off as downright ebullient! As usual, the crooner made sure to safeguard his daughter's privacy as much as possible, although he couldn't conceal his beaming smile whenever her name was invoked. Given Nicole's attitude shift since these pregnancy rumors sprang up, we'd be just as proud if we were in Lionel's shoes!

With Nicole Richie effectively confirming the pregnancy rumors which have been hounding the diminutive diva for weeks yesterday, we thought for sure that her dad would be going on the record about his daughter's up-knockery - but no dice!

After a four-month European tour, Lionel Richie finally touched down at LAX yesterday - and we were thrilled to greet him! Of course, we're always happy to see the ever-gracious, eternally-upbeat Lionel, and we were especially happy to hear that he'd be heading directly home from the airport for a visit with Nicole - with the rough patch she's been going through over the last few weeks, she could probably use some paternal support! We also asked him if he had any words for Nicole's old pal Paris now that she's locked down at Lynwood - although Lionel seemed surprised to learn that she'd already gone in, he said he'd save his words for when he spoke to her on the phone!

The clubs were jumping last night - wait'll you see this clip! After catching the ever-pleasant Lionel Richie at Mr. Chow's, we hit the strip in a big way: we spotted Kevin Federline (again?), Carrie Underwood, Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan , and Oscar winner Kevin Spacey! But the night's most surprising sighting had to go to Brett Ratner - or should we say Brett Ratner and Natalie Walker?

Mostly because of his currently more-famous offspring, but the "All Night Long" singer was looking pretty good when we caught up with him in Beverly Hills yesterday. He tells us that Nicole's doing great, having just come back from a little R&R with her new bf!
