Britney Spears' parents, Jamie and Lynne, are being sued by their daughter's former friend slash manager Sam Lutfi today...

Now Sam's lawyer Bryan Freedman has released a statement regarding the suit:

This lawsuit is being brought as a result of the defamation, ridicule and harassment of Sam Lutfi by Jamie Spears and Lynne Spears. A thorough investigation has revealed overwhelming evidence from independent witnesses, showing that Lynne Spears knowingly and maliciously publicized devastating false information about Lutfi which destroyed his reputation, irreparably harmed his career, and subjected him to constant scorn and humiliation.

At the time of the trial in this action, the jury will have an opportunity to weigh the credibility of the witnesses. In doing so, it will be faced with two threshold questions: Why would a supposedly loving mother write a tell all book about the sordid details of two of the most devastating nights of her daughter's life and go on countless talk shows for her own profit? And why would a loving father who deems his daughter to be incompetent, thrust her into a massive world tour only to subject her to the very limelight that threatened to shatter her life, for something other than his own personal gain?

The facts of this case will reveal Jamie and Lynne’s conduct in light of these questions. It will unequivocally explain the motivation of two people who are seemingly willing to destroy anyone and anything that gets in the way of their ability to control and profit from their daughter. Through this action, the truth about Jamie, Lynne and their relentless desire to control Britney Spears and her fortune will be revealed.

Just like all the times we've seen Britney curbing her caffeine craving, we caught her mom Lynne enjoying a frappuccino Thursday in Hollywood.

Those Spears sure do love their Starbucks!!!

Brit's folks have been pretty amicable since their split, but it's been awhile since we've seen them together. But last night both Jamie and Lynne jetted to New York to be with their daughter on the eve of her birthday and her big GMA performance.

We even spotted a bit o' Brit! That's her hiding underneath the umbrellas...guess she wanted to wait to be unveiled on the big show this morning!

Brit's mom Lynne is reportedly shopping her book Through the Storm around Hollywood studios in the hopes of making it into a movie. The book details Brit's problems with fame, drinking, drugs, sex ... and hair clippers.

According to sources, Scary Movie star Anna Faris is the leading choice for the role of Britney. And get this--Lynne reportedly is hoping to snag Julia Roberts to play her!

There's no word on who's being considered for the K-Fed role.

Lynne Spears says she's happy with the direction her daughters' lives are headed.

She tells People Magazine, "Really wonderful things are happening now... it looks like things are looking up again."

But Lynne says that the criticism she's endured over Britney's wild ways and Jaime-Lynne's teenaged pregnancy have been difficult.

"I had a perfect little plan," she said. "But, you can't control the (kid's) peers, you can't control society and you do the best you can."

On the positive side, Lynne says looking to an upcoming family get-together with Britney and her kids, Sean and Jayden, and Jamie-Lynne and her daughter Maddie.

"The seasons are changing and things are good this year," Lynne says. "I am so happy where we are right now."

Hmm, is that just a coincidence or does Brit not want him around?

Britney's mom Lynne sat down to chat with Meredith Vieira on Wednesday's Today show and, of course, the two ladies discussed Brit, parenting and fame...

"There was that honeymoon period where it looked like she could do no wrong," Lynne explains. "Then there's that ugly side of fame... and we weren't ready for that."

Lynne denies she was ever a stage mom, insisting that "Britney pushed me." She adds: "She's out there, she's with the crowds and with her peer groups, and she's doing things - she's a celebrity, for heaven's sake!"

And what about that famed Rolling Stone cover of Britney with the Teletubby in '99? "We didn't really know what we were doing," Lynne admits. "I never even bought [Rolling Stone], but I just heard this is a really big deal."

Finally, Meredith asks if Lynne would have done anything differently. The mother of three responds: "Shoulda, woulda, coulda."

In this second half of the interview - video below! - Lynne talks about Jamie Lynn, who recently gave birth to her own daughter, Maddie...

Apparently, Jamie Lynn called her mom home one day (with boyfriend Casey Aldridge by her side). "She hands me a note and tells me to go into the bedroom and read it," Lynne reveals.

The note said she was pregnant. "I thought it was a joke," says Lynne. "I kept waiting for the punch line."

Then, when Casey wouldn't look at Lynne, she knew it wasn't a joke. What did Jamie Lynn's mom then do? "I was in shock... and then I started to cry. And then she [Jamie Lynn] started consoling me at that point," Lynne says.

Did she feel like it was her fault? "As a mother," Lynne explains, "don't we always blame ourselves? I took a lot of the blame. I took all the blame."

Wow - drama, drama, drama!

Before Brit threw a birthday bash for her two boys on Saturday, she made sure to bond with her little sis and mom!

Even though we thought Britney might be pissed that mama Lynne had penned a tell-all book revealing some juicy details from Brit's early years, it looks like mother and daughter are on good terms again. Lynne tells People that her previously rocky relationship with Brit "has undergone tremendous healing," and that the two are "back to four or five phone calls a day."

Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World covers the Spears family as they went from living a normal life in Louisiana to being thrust into the international spotlight. Though Brit and her brother Bryan haven't yet read the book, Lynne says, "Jamie Lynn loved the book. I started to cry because I told her, 'I wanted so much for you to like it.' And she got up and kissed me on the cheek and said, 'Mama, thank you so much.'"

We spotted Britney's mom Lynne leaving STK with a small entourage last night looking just as lovely as can be. Think she ordered the same meal that Posh does? We wonder!

After spending Friday and Saturday recharging her batteries with her family, Britney Spears was all business yesterday afternoon, hitting the recording studio (accompanied by her mother Lynne) bright and early yesterday morning. Afterwards, the mother-daughter duo decided to indulge themselves with lunch at M Cafe de Chaya before heading over to Melrose to do a little shopping. As the pop princess left for lunch, however, a gaggle of fans caught sight of her and went into seizures of happiness as her SUV pulled away. Wow - if Britney's getting this much love when she's just out and about, imagine how crazy her fans are going to go when she shows up at the VMAs!

After a playdate with Gavin and Gwen's - who checked into Cedars-Sinai today! - little Kingston, our girl Brit headed to the recording studio last night to work on her latest album. And who tagged along for support? Mom Lynne!

Nice to see Britney so focused on her career, even after a long day with the kids!

Our girl Brit sure had a tough day yesterday - especially when she bumped into a pair of pushy fans on her way to Tracey Ross! As you can see in our video, these two little girls simply would not take no for an answer, crowding Britney's car and even calling the pop princess a "bitch" for daring to cover up. Well, you'll certainly never get anywhere if that's your attitude, young ladies!

Thankfully, Britney's family was on hand to support her - not only did we catch her mother Lynn accompanying Brit into Tracey Ross, but we caught her leaving after dinner with none other than her brother Bryan a little later out in Silver Lake! Isn't it great seeing Britney's family coming to her aid like this? 'Course, that's just what the Spears family does when one of their daughters is in need!

Britney Spears barely had a moment to spare yesterday - on top of all her comeback-related commitments, she got in a little quality time with her mother!

We caught Britney and her mother Lynne dropping by Victoria's Secret to shop for unmentionables. Isn't it kind of Britney to spend so much of her free time with her mother? With the tabloids still running wild with those allegations, Lynne could use all the family support she can get!

According to the National Enquirer, Brit's mother Lynne was involved in a car accident in 1975 where she ran over and killed a 12-year-old boy on a bicycle. The newspaper reports that Lynne, then 20, was driving her brother to the hospital when the accident occurred in her hometown of Kentwood, Lousiana.

A source close to the Spears family told the newspaper, "To this day, Lynne hasn't gotten over what she did. She gets that terrified look in her eye when she is thinking about it. She has told only a few people about the accident and always says, 'Please don't think I'm a bad person.'"

A representative for Spears told the National Enquirer, "It bothers Lynne still to this day. She really doesn't like to talk about it. She just wanted to forget that it ever happened - but she can't."
