Am just speculating, but it sounds like a possible assumption was made that he was passed out from drugs or something and so she called Mary Kate in California -- all the way across the country -- to ask what to do. She may have been thinking that calling 911 could have ruined his career had he been overdosing, so maybe she figured Mary Kate would be in a position to advise her. Hence, Mary Kate opted to involve private security guards instead of referring her to 911. But then when the masseuse realized the situation was too dire, she told Mary Kate she was going to phone 911 after all. Total speculation on my part, but that's what it sounds like to me, and for my speculation to be accurate, the masseuse had to have some way of knowing that Mary Kate would have been a safe bet to call -- someone she could confide in regarding Heath and a potentially drug related matter. And that opens a whole 'nuther can o' worms...

Massage therapists in New York State have to be licensed and must be certified in CPR. I know this cuz I happen to be an LMT in New York State. You can't practice without a license in NY and you can't have a license without completing a CPR course -- and then you have to renew your certification annually.

So unless she was practicing massage therapy illegally in New York State, then she had already been trained in CPR.

I just took a look at the 25th Amendment, and I don't see where Mary Kate Olsen fits into the Presidential succession protocol. Is there some other reason why she needs so many bodyguards?

But after the first call when Mary Kate said she'd call some private security guards she knew, the massage therapist says she phoned Mary Kate a SECOND time to tell her she was going to call 911 after all. So that means that the bodyguards were perhaps initially being called upon instead of 911. Otherwise, there would be no need to phone Mary Kate a second time to tell her you've decided to phone 911.

The maid did not phone 911. The massage therapist entered his bedroom at 3pm, set up her massage table, tried to wake Heath but couldn't, phoned Mary Kate (who said she'd phone some private security guards and then hung up) and then the massage therapist phoned Mary Kate a SECOND time to tell her she was going to phone 911. Then at 3:26pm she phoned 911 and the paramedics arrived on the scene at 3:33pm -- at almost exactly the same time as the 1st of 3 bodyguards that Mary Kate had phoned for help.

So if you want to bitch about someone getting their story wrong, go bark up the NYPD and NY Times' trees.

The stupid woman should have called paramedics first, maybe then he would have had a fighting chance.
