I believe that the judge is trying to make an example out of her. I cannot say on whether or not she deserves the outcome, but I do know that if you break the law you should be punished. Paris is a good person. She never did anything intentionally to hurt ANYONE. And, while, her DUI was stupid, she had learned from her mistake - she no longer consumes any alcohol if she is driving. What she did was an honest mistake. She really did not know that she could not drive. She has so many advisors that it was all a misunderstanding. It would be one thing if this were a second DUI, but she drove 5 blocks from her house. Have a little compassion. People are being killed in Iraq, Bush is a dictator and we are policing Paris for driving on a suspened license. The district attorney has so many other issues to handle that this was ridiculous. They are using her to make a statement to Hollywood and to try and appear that those with money and fame are above the law. However, we all know this is not true. It's a harsh reality, but these people are above the law, whether or not it is just. As a society, I think we need to focus on the more pertinent issues. The DA office says that she is being treated like any other case, but why did they close down the court house? I know people that have broken their DUI probation and have not been sentenced to anything remotely as extreme as this case. As a lawyer, I am shocked and disgusted by the DA office.

The first mistake the Hilton Family made was hiring a "High-Powered" attorney instead of an attorney that specializes in DUI law.

1) Paris was arrested in September 2006 on a DUI
2) CA DMV is automatically notified of any DUI arrest ~ they hold a hearing independent of any criminal prosecutions and their determination on suspension or revocation of a license is based strictly on CA laws.
3) Paris' license was suspended 11/30/06 by DMV ~ she would have been served personally or notified by mail.
4) You must remember ~ Proceeding and findings by the DMV are independent and are completely separate from the proceedings and findings in the criminal matter.
5) On 1/15/07 PH was pulled over by CHP for speeding ~ she was not cited for the infraction but was given a written warning that she received and signed verifying that indeed her license was suspended.
6) On 1/22/07 she appeared for sentencing on her criminal case. She was ordered to enroll in an alcohol-education program by 2/12. Per the CHP she still had not enrolled by 4/17.
7) On 2/27 she was pulled over again for speeding; driving at night without her headlights on and driving on a suspended license. According to CA laws her car was automatically impounded.
8) According to DMV her license would have been reinstated 3/31 but she did not complete her alcohol-education court ordered program or even enroll in it.

I work in the Los Angeles County court system and may I say ~ most citizens would have been ticketed and had their car impounded at the time of the 1/15 incident. Paris lucked out and was given a written notice.

For those that believe PH is being singled out because of her so-called "Celebrity Status" may I say that is total nonsense. May I also suggest that you go spend a day at an LA courthouse and you'll see people are going to jail for lesser then this.

For those of you who say that EVERYONE else gets punished, I don't think you guys know EVERYONE's case. Maybe you remember certain ones here and there, but people's situations are different.

I personally believe that she probably did sign the paper without realizing what it means. How many of you know of people that seek tax advisors and sign the paper at the end acknowledging that everything is truthful. Do those signers understand every detail or are they given a summary of what they need to know so that they can go on?
