Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the LAPD investigation into Sam Lutfi allegedly drugging Britney Spears is well underway.
We're told the case has now been assigned to Robbery Homicide, primarily because of the sensitive nature of the allegations and the intense media interest in Britney Spears. Sources say investigators have interviewed several witnesses regarding the drugs in Brit's system at the time she was most recently committed.
We're told the investigation had been temporarily derailed because of the death of an LAPD SWAT officer but it's now back on track.
One source says the investigation will probably be concluded in late March.

She hasn't seen or talked to them since early in January! The people making decisions in that court must be absolutely heartless, there is no way she would hurt those two boys, whether talking to or seeing them. We're told the case has now been assigned to Robbery Homicide, primarily because of the sensitive nature of the allegations and the intense media interest in Britney Spears. Sources say investigators have interviewed several witnesses regarding the drugs in Brit's system at the time she was most recently committed.

We're told the investigation had been temporarily derailed because of the death of an LAPD SWAT officer, but it's now back on track.

One source says the investigation will probably be concluded in late March.

Sam Lutfi, the former Britney BFF and restraining order magnet, is getting a raw deal from the biggest player in the Spears-stalking media.

On Feb. 15, celebrity website TMZ blasted out an "exclusive" story citing LAPD sources who said its Major Crimes Division had launched a criminal investigation into Lutfi for allegedly drugging Spears. That's news to the LAPD. (Was the source a Detective McNulty, by chance?)

"We don't have anything," a spokesperson for the LAPD tells Radar. Then she put us on hold and rang the Major Crimes Department to double check but returned a few minutes later to confirm that the department is not investigating Lutfi. She vowed to look further into the claim to see if any division was investigating Lutfi but said, "I don't see any concrete evidence of a report on file.
