LOS ANGELES, California (X17online.com) - Singer Ashlee Simpson and her boyfriend, Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz are engaged. Simpson broke the news herself on her MySpace blog late last night.

In a post titled Speculation, Ashlee made the following statement:

"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, but we wanted you to hear it straight from us."

Additionally, Joe Simpson confirmed to E! Online that Wentz went about things the old fashioned way and asked him for Ashlee's hand in marriage. Simpson also told E! that he was "totally happy" and "so excited to have Pete as part of the family."
