Steven Spielberg SSpielberg060808_07.jpg LOS ANGELES, California - Steven Spielberg is looking to raise more than $1 billion to make DreamWorks an independent company that once again owns the films it makes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Spielberg reportedly wants to leave Paramount for Universal, but at the advice of his advisers, he has allowed the studios to bid for the rights to distribute future DreamWorks projects. Those looking to get involved include Paramount, Universal, Disney and Fox. Though many industry insiders believe Spielberg will remain at Paramount, Spielberg's contract with the studio runs until 2010, but he can terminate it early at year's end, perhaps for the right price.
