NBC's The Jay Leno Show Debuts With Great Numbers
(09/15/09 8:15 AM)

jaylenonumbers200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Based on preliminary ratings, NBC's The Jay Leno Show is off to an excellent start.

For the debut of his 10pm comedy show, Leno pulled a 12.1 preliminary metered-market household rating and 19 share, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This is 70% stronger than Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show premiere last June (7.1 household rating, 17 share, 9.2 million viewers) and 38% higher than Leno's own final Tonight Show appearance last May (8.8 household rating, 20 share, 11.9 million viewers).

We can't be sure of the exact viewership just yet, but it seems as though Leno's 12.1 could translate to more than 10 million viewers.

I've always loved Jay Leno and hope he'll eventually return to his Tonight Show-style format (his hilarious opening monologue, the funny observations segment, and then a couple of interviews). Just didn't care for this new program.

Good for him. I just wished he could have gotten Leddermen off the air.

Was looking forward to seeing Leno on air again but didn't care for his new show. We need more of the old Jay we loved watching. And not having a desk made him look uncomfortable and made me feel uncomfortable.

I loved the earlier time slot, it was good to see Jay Leno, Kevin Eubanks and the whole gang back again. I am excited to continue watching.

Jay is a classic perfomer and I enjoyed his return. Trying new things is good for Jay to have fun and open up the show for new horizons. Play on Jay Leno!

I tried watching last night, but got disgusted when Jay Leno had Kayne West on the show!! what a idiot, sitting there crying and blaming his rude actions on the death of his mother! I'm sure his mother is turning over in her grave! I love Kevin Eubanks and I'm sorry that Jay spoiled his first show with someone so idiotic, and who is NOT a singer and has NO talent!!!

I agree with Joni. I enjoyed Jay's show until he brought Kayne West on - and the music (noise?) that followed had me reaching for the mute button. But I wish Jay well and will be watching again tonight. Glad Kevin and crew are on again, also. It's been a boring summer without Jay and Kevin. Here's to a long, successful run to my favorite late night guys. And here's a real plus: now I can go to bed sooner. Congrats, Jay. Just do us all a favor and don't have Kayne West or his ilk on again!!!

Will watch Jay Leno no matter what. He is light years above the rest.

Its a sorry state of affairs when the same old tired Jay Leno is the best thing on the boob tube. Yes, I did watch the show, hoping to see something new and refreshing, but all I saw was a re-hash of all the old Leno material. Looks like early to bed with a good book for me

different things for different people, no one can please all. Leno is a classic and we are running out of real live people who can entertain as well as Leno . so watch you may miss some great laughs and fun. no spell check MM bad . (you can still get any image you want off this page it is called screen shot or can you disable that also .I for one do not see anything worth getting here. Annoying that you have not stopped the stealing of pictures but have left those of us who misspell in a quandary .well you can check spelling after all in the preview . what was I thinking .

Love Leno but bring back the old format. The 10 p.m. slot is great and we get to bed ealier. Just keep the show as we know it.

I agree with Joni and Pauline... Thought the show went very well. The carwash bit was hilarious. I can understand why he let that idiot, West, "fake attempt" an apology, tho I suspect he was pushed into it by Jay-Z. They were already booked to perform, anyway. I watched their 'performance'... and, honestly, can't understand why anyone would give any of those people millions of dollars for displaying that "crap". None of them can sing worth a damn... can't play any instruments... can't 'write' music beyond the level of a third grader. Absolutely boring... but, I stayed the course 'til the end, just so I could "know what I was talkin' about". I gave them all a fair shot... and was extremely disappointed by their total lack of talent; except for Leno.

My husband and I are Leno fans. We watched night #1, suffering through the Kanye West "confession". We left at the music. Night #2: When we saw that Jay's guest was Michael Moore we selected the Golf Channel. Perhaps Leno should consider another network beside NBC.
