chrisbrownpic200.jpgLOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA (X17online) - R&B star Chris Brown is taking some time away from the stage and encouraging kids to read. Rihanna's ex will pay a surprise visit to students at Sisulu-Walker Charter School in Harlem for their annual "Family Read Night." Sisulu-Walker is the first charter school in New York State.

Chris Brown was born in Harlem, and we're told that he jumped at the chance to be involved with this project. Brown's rep tells X17online exclusively, "Chris is looking forward to meeting the staff and reading to the children."

Principal Dawn Cejas says, "I extended an invitation to all celebrities and politicians, and we had an acceptance by him."

In response to Brown visiting the school, a 5th grade parent had this to say: "He can come even though he was arrested. He's coming to read to the children. He apologized on TV. Sometimes in real life we make mistakes."

The school has not released the exact date that Brown will visit.
