The country's main Islamist party is calling for the British singer to be removed from the lineup.

According to a leader for the Justice and Development Party, “This singer is famous for his homosexual behavior and for advocating it. We’re a rather open party, but promoting homosexuality is completely unacceptable, ” the party tells the Associated Press. The party also claims that he's "a bad influence for Morocco's youth."

Elton John's free concert will be held today in the upscale town of Rabat. In addition to John, other performers at the festival will include Carlos Santana, Mika and Sting.

The festival will continue through May 29.
