Oscars May Get An Earlier Airdate

oscar200new.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - The Academy Awards may be airing in January instead of the usual time which is at the end of February. However, if approved, this time change wouldn't go into effect until 2012.

Next year's 83rd annual Oscars event has already been scheduled for February 27.

In a statement, The Academy says:

“There are a number of questions still to be answered and challenges to be addressed with regard to moving the show to an earlier date. The academy governors and staffhave been and will continue to look into those questions and challenges. No decision has been made and there is currently no timetable for when a decision might be made.”

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences wouldn't comment as to why the Oscars may get an earlier date. Some speculate that the move may be an attempt to have the Oscars air first ... that way the judges won't be influenced by other award shows.
