Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong made the announcement during a show in Denver, Colorado. Armstrong told the crowd:

"Hey, I just want to tell you something right now. We're recording a live f---ing album right now. So check it out, we're gonna play a brand-new song. ... It ain't that brand-new. This song is called 'Cigarettes and Valentines.' "

Earlier this year, Green Day's 2004 album American Idiot was made into a Broadway play and has maintained rave reviews.

No release date for the new album has been released.
