Tina Brown, The Daily Beast's editor-in-chief, says the deal happened earlier this week "with a coffee-mug toast between all parties."

The new publication will be called The Newsweek Daily Beast Company. Brown says the partnership will increase the profile of their breaking news coverage and commentary.

Newsweek has been around since 1933.
