marilyn200.jpgNEW YORK, New York (X17online) - Marilyn Monroe's likeness has been purchased by Authentic Brands Group and media company NECA for close to $50 million. Toronto entrepreneur Jamie Salter headed the efforts.

The cinema icon's image will get a makeover on everything from handbags, fragrances, clothing and home goods.

Salter, of Authentic Brands Group, released the following statement:

"We're not really interested in the trinkets and trash. Don't get me wrong, it's a good business -- calendars, posters and shot glasses -- but that's not what we want to do with Marilyn Monroe."

The deal will also include using Monroe's image for Hollywood movies. The two companies have also agreed to eliminate souvenirs in Times Square. As for the deal itself, it took more than six months to negotiate.
