LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Despite rampant Internet rumors, Matt Lauer will not be leaving The Today Show, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Co-anchor Meredith Viera's future is undecided.

The publication spoke with Today executive producer Jim Bell, who said that the idea of Lauer leaving is "ludicrous." Lauer has been with the show since 1994. His contract expires in 2012. "When we're talking about something that is almost two years away, it's silly speculation," Bell said.

Such speculation began when news broke that Vieira, 57, would be leaving when her contract expires later this year. Vieira was said to have been growing weary of the early hours (the show runs for four hours each weekday morning,) and wanting to spend more time with her husband, who has multiple sclerosis.

Vieira came to the show in 2006 when Katie Couric left to anchor the CBS Evening News. Couric, 54, is reportedly leaving CBS when her $15 million contract expires June 4.

Insiders wonder if Couric will return to Today.

As for Vieira, Lauer says she has not given him a final decision. "We're still talking," he said. "We think she's fantastic and hope we'll have her with us."
