The State Department announced the concert as a benefit for President Obama's "100,000 Strong Initiative," which aims to send more Americans to China to study, according to CNN.

The Grammy-award winning rapper was a natural fit to headline the show, which will feature other American and Chinese pop artists, as his "Yes We Can" music video was inspired by Obama's 2008 presidential campaign.

The concert is being organized by the non-profit organization Americans Promoting Study Abroad, and funds from the show will help run study abroad operations for under-privileged students hoping to study in China.
