The film, in which Walker is set to star, is based on an original concept by Mike Sobel and is being produced by Original Films.

The hugely successful Fast & The Furious franchise grossed over $630 million on the most recent installment Fast Five, and Universal moved quickly to lock in the top four talent from the movie with deals similar to Walker's. "It is impossible that the Fast and Furious franchise would have become the phenomenon that it has without Paul's imprint on the series," Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson and Co-Chairman Donna Langley said in a joint statement. "We're excited to be the beneficiaries of his creative work as he branches out as a filmmaker and tackles projects as a producer."

Sources claim Walker has wanted to be more hands-on with his projects for some time. He is set to begin filming Fast Six this May.
