ABC Family Wins TV Rights To Hunger Games

the_hunger_games200.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - ABC Family has won the TV rights to the record-setting film, The Hunger Games.

The deal gives the network the rights to the franchise's first two movies, and the they will begin airing in 2014, along with a collection of other movies including the Harry Potter franchise.

"This tremendous opening weekend reinforces what we have already learned: A powerful heroine, themes of romance and iconic characters will keenly resonate with our Millennial audience. This franchise will continue to enhance our network for years to come," ABC Family president Michael Riley said in a statement.

Hunger Games, adapted from Suzanne Collin's trilogy of young adult novels, scored the third biggest opening weekend at the domestic box office ever. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, and Liam Hemsworth.
