niccagecomic_news.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Nicolas Cage, an avid comic book collector, was the target of a ring of nerdy thieves who stole the actor's copy of the 1938 Action Comics No 1 and the whole event will now be made into a film for Lionsgate, the studio has announced.

The writers of Reno 911, Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, will produce with Peter Principato and Paul Young, a heist comedy to be called Action No. 1.

The story focuses on a group of geeks who attempt to steal Cage's classic comic book. The plot line will follow real-life events from the theft in 2000, the reappearance of the issue in 2011, when it sold at auction for a record $2.1 million, and was finally recovered by authorities.

The writers wrote Cage's part with Cage in mind to play the role but it's unlikely the actor will be play himself. Jason Statham's name has reportedly been mentioned in relation to the project but his rep has not confirmed the news.
