122011-TODAY-MattLauer200.jpg LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Matt Lauer has confirmed he will stay on Today after much speculation about a possible departure. The NBC host explained his decision, saying, "This is my family, this is my show... let's keep going."

Earlier this week, Lauer, 54, kidded Ryan Seacrest, 37, about replacing him on the morning talk show, amid speculation the E! personality would take over his position.

Although the American Idol judge will help with NBC Summer Olympic coverage, he revealed he might not join Today until Lauer retires.

Co-host Ann Curry and weatherman Al Roker applauded Lauer's decision to stick with his hosting duties. It has been reported that Lauer had a $25 million contract, but NBC News president Steve Capus dismissed those claims.

Lauer's contract is long term, but financial terms were not disclosed.
