The film, based on an article about the only foreigner other than Che Guevara to become a comandante in Cuba, will also be produced by the A-list actor and his partner Grant Heslov through their Smokehouse production company.

The article, initially published in The New Yorker and written by David Grann, details the journey of Alexander Morgan, and explains how his behavior caught the attention of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover.

The film project will not begin until The Descendants star is finished adapting The Monuments Men, an adaptation of the WW II Nazi art heist book. On the acting front, the Oscar-nominated actor is also set to star alongside Sandra Bullock in Gravity, set to be released next year.
