The disease, also known as MDS, is one of the blood and bone marrow which will require her to get a bone-marrow transplant. Roberts' sister will be the donor.

"My doctors tell me I'm going to beat this – and I know it's true," the 51-year-old anchor wrote to fans on GMA's website. "If you Google MDS, you may find some scary stuff, including statistics that my doctors insist don't apply to me. They say I'm younger and fitter than most people who confront this disease and will be cured."

Roberts, who battled breast cancer several years ago, suggested that the cancer treatments are a possible cause for this new development. She's expected to make a full recovery.
