The former star of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant star Valerie Fairman had died of an apparent overdose, according to TMZ. She was 23 years old.

Her mother told the site that her daughter had been at a friend’s home in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday. The 23-year-old would not come out of the bathroom, so her friend broke down the door and found her unresponsive.

MTV released a statement: “We are saddened by the news of Valerie Fairman’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and her family at this time.”


Teen Mom 2’s Chelsea Houska took to social media to pay tribute to the troubled star, writing, “How incredibly sad. My heart goes out to her daughter and family.”

16 and Pregnant’s Jenelle Evans also posted her shock over the the late mother’s death. One tweet read, “Oh my god.  I just spoke to her a couple months ago and told her I'm proud of her and looks like she's doing good.” She posted another tweet that said, “This really upsets me. Thanks for letting me know. I told her to stay on track.” Evans also posted an Instagram, remembering her late friend.


Back in 2010, Fairman starred on the second season of 16 and Pregnant, which documented the birth of her daughter Nevaeh, who is seven years old now.

The reality star had struggled with substance abuse for several years. She was arrested in 2015 on prostitution charges in Delaware. A week ago, she was arrested for resisting arrest and giving false identification to cops.
