Movies YESMAN.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Severe winter weather is being blamed for a lackluster weekend at the box office.

The Jim Carey comedy "Yes Man" opened at number one, bringing in $18.2 million according to studio estimates.

Will Smith's "Seven Pounds" was second with $16 million.

Both films had been expected to earn at least $5 million more in their opening weekend.

Studio execs say powerful winter storms in many parts of the mid-west and northeast kept people away from theaters.

In third place was the animated "The Tales of Despereaux," earning $10.5 million.

Surrounded by Oscar buzz, "The Wrestler" had the best per-screen average this weekend. The film averaged more than $52 thousand per screen.

The top 12 movies took in $82.8 million, down 44 percent from the same weekend last year, according to the associated press.
