Rihanna: Being In Love With Chris Brown Was "Embarrassing"
(11/05/09 7:37 AM)
LOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Although the full interview won't air until tomorrow night, GMA gave us another look at Rihanna's emotional sit-down with Diane Sawyer.
"That's embarrassing that that's the type of person that I fell in love with," she tells Diane in the new clip.
"I stayed. I even went back after he beat me, which was wrong," Rihanna said. "But again ... I'm a human being and people put me on a very unrealistic pedestal. And all these expectations, I'm not perfect."
Rihanna said her decision to finally get out was motivated by the idea that she was a negative role model for other young women who may have been in her same situation.
"Even if Chris never hit me again, who is to say that their boyfriend won't? Who's to say that they won't kill these girls?" Rihanna continued, "These are young girls and I just didn't realize how much of an impact I had on these girls' lives until that happened."
You can watch the entire interview tomorrow night on 20/20 at 10pm EST.

If you gave a damn about young girls, you wouldn't be walking around naked and your music would have a positive message. Who do you think that you are fooling? This sounds like promotion for your CD.
Kilgore, your prob some plump couch potato that still hates all the skinny girls. Regardles of what YOU believe, many young women look up to these celebrities. Rihanna did the right thing in getting out of the abusive situation and showing other women how to leave a loser. Now put the cheetos down and be a role model in YOUR world. Get in shape and teach fitness to kids.
I think Rihanna is beautiful and smart with enormous talent. Sounds like the first post was made by a very jealous and insecure person.
good for her and i like her guts in letting go of the love that would have choked her later. she is a beautiful young girl and there is a guy out there who is meant for her, love her and cherish her at the same time. go Rihanna
I think Rihanna, did the right thing and left that guy. I think she shouldnt went back to him after he beat her though. i love her and her music and i think she is a great romodel for other young girls in similar situations.
I was so moved by her statements I put up with the same thing was beat once like her but up until that point was shoved, called names and everything else. It took me four times to finaly leave him.. I was the exact same way I was so embarrassed and ashamed I told no one.....I think she is a wonderful and talented girl and I wish I could sit down and have a conversation with her..
As a mother of two teenage daughters, I appreciate her coming forward and sharing her story as, whether we like it our not, girls look up to her. When they see someone strong like her being vulnerable, they realize how REAL this is. I applaud her for speaking out and sharing her tragic story
Unfortunantly, this is a trajic story for 2 young people.Chris, as we all know should never have put his hands on her no matter what the situation.Rihanna should have come out sooner with her story, I understand she was hurt and embarrassed, but by waiting it really makes her look like she is trying to get sympathy from the general public to boost her album sales.I'm not saying that is her reason, but it sure does look that way and perception can be rougher than the truth.I applaude her for getting through the situation. No one knows how they would deal with the situation until they have been in the situation, and what works for 1 person may not work for another.
BEING A VICTIM OF VIOLENCE IS NEVER EASY. WHEN IT COMES FROM A PERSON WHO SAYS THEY LOVE YOU IN THE SAME BREATH IS EVEN HARDER TO DEAL WITH. YOU STAY BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BELIEVE THE EXCUSES YOU MAKE FOR THAT PERSON. YOU LEAVE BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BELIEVE YOU WILL BE STRONGER IN THE END, AND YOU GO BACK BECAUSE YOUR INNER STRONG PERSON CONVINCES YOU THAT YOU CAN CHANGE THEM... ITS A SICK VICIOUS EMOTIONAL CYCLE THAT UNLESS YOU HAVE RIDDEN THAT BIKE, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU WOULD DO IN THE SAME SITUATION. I WAS CONDEMNING OF HER IN THE BEGINNING BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT SHE HAS AN ENTIRE ENTOURAGE OF PEOPLE SHE ALLOWS TO HELP SHAPE HER PUBLIC APPEARANCE AND YET SHE WENT BACK TO CHRIS BROWN. BUT AFTER READING BITS AND PIECES OF HER INTERVIEW, I AM REMINDED OF WHAT IT TRULY IS LIKE TO BE THAT WOMAN... THANK GOD SHE DID LEAVE, NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TOOK HER TO DO IT...
