Copperfield200.jpgMANHATTAN, New York (X17online) - Lacey Carrol has withdrawn her lawsuit against magician David Copperfield that stems from allegations of sexual assault three years ago.

23-year-old Carrol, who was the first runner-up in last year's Miss Washington USA pageant, alleges that the assault took place on Copperfield's private island in the Bahamas. She claims that she met him in January 2007 when he pulled her out of the audience during one of his shows. That summer, she visited Copperfield on his island where he allegedly sexually assaulted her ... even threatened to kill her.

In a statement Carrol says that the magician's legal team subjected her to "intense scrutiny and constant surveillance, while her family, friends and co-workers have been besiged with subpoenas and demands for personal information."

According to Copperfield's rep, her story is "nothing but a pathetic attempt to extort Mr. Copperfield for money with malicious and false allegations."

Federal prosecutors have dropped the charges. Sources close to the case speculate that Carrol was paid a large settlement.
