Morgan Freeman Selected To Receive AFI's Life Achievement Award

morganfreeman200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Morgan Freeman will be receiving the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award at the 39th annual awards show.

Howard Stringer, chair of AFI's board of trustees, released the following statement:

    "Morgan Freeman is an American treasure. Across decades, whether playing a prisoner, a president or God, he embodies a calm authority that demands respect for the charactger and for the art form."

Others who have received the prestigious honor: Sean Connery, Steven Spielberg, Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, Bette Davis and Clint Eastwood. Just last year, Diane Sawyer's husband Mike Nichols was honored.

The AFI Awards will take place on June 9th.
