goldenglobes200.jpgLOS ANGELES, California (X17online) - Ricky Gervais made this year's Golden Globes ceremony controversial, however a lawsuit may halt next year's awards show from airing.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is currently disputing with the show's longtime producer, Dick Clark Production ... accusing the production company of "absconding with rights to the show by unilaterally reaching a new eight-year broadcast agreement" with the Peacock network.

This past month, Dick Clark Productions asked a California judge to dismiss the suit. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association would like the hearings to begin on March 5, 2012. However, DC Productions wanted the trial to begin this past December ... so that the court proceedings wouldn't interfere with the award ceremony.

The HFPA's lawyers are now arguing that both dates will not allow "sufficient time to take reasonable commercial steps for the production and distribution of the television broadcast of the 69th annual Golden Globes Awards Show."

Next year's Golden Globes show has a tentative date of January 8th or 15th. No word on whether next year's show will be cancelled.
